How can I get an animated gif and take the frame by frame to edit it and redo another one. I've tried Adobe Image Ready, didn't do nothing besides leaving me with a trail of the gif itself.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Image Ready is the way to do it. I'm guessing it was a transparent gif and that's why you got that trailing effect.

Each frame will be on a seperate layer in the layer pallete.

What you could do if you're planning on doing some heave editing is to just save it as a PSD from Image Ready then open it in Photoshop...you'll have to bring it back to IR before exporting it though.

The way you re-sequence or edit an animation is you need to open and view the animation pallete.

Probably the best thing you want to do is to delete all of the key frames. When you make a key frame it'll remember the current position of everything on the canvas. Somethings are not remembered though, so pay attention to that.

But all you have to do is, say you have a 5 frame animation on 5 layers;

Make the first layer visable, hide the rest. Next hit the new keyframe button (looks just like the New Layer button...the piece of paper with a folded corner looking icon) in the animation pallete, hide the first layer and make the second visable.

You should be able to see it difference in the thumbnails in your animation pallete.

Hit New Keyframe, hide frame 2 and show frame 3.

Repeat.

That should get you going at least.

Hope it helps.

Basically, in Image Ready, the layers are the entire animations...

Layer 1 is the first frame
Layer 2 is the first and second frame combined
Layer 3 is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd frame combined
and so on.

This is why I was so puzzled about a way to cut then off and have only one image per layer instead of the combined stuff. I'll try your technique right away but if you could explain why the layers are like that I would appreciate.

I can't say I know. Do you have a link to the image so I could check it out?

I'm stumped. I've never encountered anything like that before. Wish I could help more but I'd be lying if I said I had any idea what was occuring there.

Every app I opened it in did that. Sorry.
