There's 4 different models altogether:

- Panasonic FZ-1 : The old front loader

- Panasonic FZ-10 : The top-loader ( the latest model and the one I recommend ).

- Goldstar 3DO : Another front loader ( Failure prone from what I hear. I have one that doesn't work anymore ).

- Sanyo 3DO : This is the most rare. It costs much more than any of the other models because of this.

IMO, the original FZ-1 was the coolest looking, plus it had standard built-in S-Video and stereo jacks. I only ever owned the original, but I do know that the FZ-10 was damn ugly.

The CD drives are all the same speed. Apart from the previous post ( the extra jacks of the FZ-1 ), I don't know of any hardware differences...

The disc-drive of the FZ-1 tended to break after some time(Mine did! ),and the Goldstar had problems with some of the games-namely SPACE HULK!
The goldstar is the only one with a working MPEG-1 cart,though...

I recommend the FZ 10-it seems to be the most relieable, and also has a built-in storage management for your save-games,
You would need a copy of WING COMMANDER 3 or the 'Interactive sampler Nr.4' to erase unwanted saves on the FZ-1.

Actually, both Panasonic models have MPEG add-ons in Japan. Coincidentally, I'm going to be selling a Japanese FZ-1 w/ MPEG adaptor + games soon. :p

IIRC, the Japanese FZ-1 has a built in memory management utility. Yes, they always get it better over there.

There was an add on cart for the FZ-1 in the U.S. also , It plugs into the port on the left side of the unit.

I remember them being about $199.00 when they came out , It came with Total Recall.

I have always wanted one , but never bought one.

I appreciate it a lot.

Anyone know what models of the pc engine and turbo graphic and duo are they?

Im also in the market to buy one cause i won sf2 Champion Edition from ebay and now want the system to go with it.

If you guys could point me to a faq or explain it to me you would make me one happy gamer!

Thanks everyone.

That sounds like the Goldstar MPEG package to me.

Don't forget about the 3D0 ISA card for the PC that Creative put out. I wanted to get one of those for my custom build P2 frankenstein comp just for shits and giggles but never found any used computer sites/places that had it for sale.

Nope it was specifically made for the FZ-1 , the plastic case it was housed in was molded to look exactly like the FZ-1 would without it , just a bit fatter.

I do remember seeing the GoldStar add on also though, I bought one of my friends a GoldStar 3DO for christmas back then , only beacuse E.B. was out of FZ-1 units.

On a side not I used to have a Creative 3DO Blaster , it was kind of cool but didnt really work all that great.

If any of you guys track one down makes sure it is complete , It will only work with the 2 speed drive it comes with.
