It's probably best to go with the Official Konami Pad ( I have some cheap 3rd party ones, too, and they're not too good ).
Once thing to look out for is that there's no buttons on the lower/right and lower/left corners. It messes you up if you think you pressed the left arrow, and you pressed the lower/left button too, which is probably set to act as a down button...Anybody who has a third party pad knows what I'm talking about ( the Konami pad doesn't have these buttons ).

There's a couple of things about soft pads: It's impossible to play "Heavy" or "Maniac" on them unless you stick them to the floor somehow. It's also impossible to play Double mode , also ( unless you like to do splits unintentionally  ).

What I'm planning to do is get a piece of board the same size as the two pads and somehow fix the pads on the board ( so they can't slide away from each other ).

does konami sell their offcial dance mats on their website? Also the intec dance mat doesn't have the lowerleft and lowerright buttons. It has the regular arrows. In the corners it has the regular ps buttons(circle, square, x, and triangle). My cousin has ddr disney mix and i would like to play supercalifragilisticexiplacious(some shit like that), would i slip and fall a lot with the intec dance mat if i played that song?

That's what I'm saying : depending on what the circle, square, x and triangle button are set up for in the Options menu , they will act as arrows if you press them.
As for the song , I'm not familiar with it, so i couldn't tell ( what's the rating of the song? how many feet? )

Well, if it's not too fast, you should be able to play it without any problems ( the problems start when the songs are faster or have a lot of fast steps i.e. 1/8 or 1/16 steps ).

Go on ebay, find the "Padded" pads. They're like 1" thick and have foam padding in them. They are the arcade size. You can get 2 for $50 and it's the best DDR controller you can buy.

theyre decent, about like any other soft pad out there...they are for casual beginner play...if your really looking into ddr for a consistant thing and getting into for the run of things, look into a metal pad (youll have to modify it slightly but thats no biggy) and if you want something easier then metal, an ignition 2.0 would be your best bet...the greatest incarnation of soft pads ever made...

I've never tried that particular mat, but it doesn't look that great. RedOctane.com is supposed to have some good mats, but they're kind of expensive.

Metal pad? The only one I know of is the Konami official arcade pad , but that costs upward of $1000... Is there a cheaper metal pad?

Go to EB or somewhere and get a NAKI mat for $20. That's what I have. It's basically the same thing as teh offical pad, but with the square and triangle buttons.

Just buy two Konami ones. They're cheap and by far the best controller for DDR. The padded ones were a good idea, but the squishyness really fucks up your play.

it's too late... i already bought the intec pad last night. The pad isn't that bad. I think it was a good deal; 15bucks for an alright pad+ i bought DevilMayCry, because it was so cheap :D

If your used to the arcade version I dont advise the Konami one. Its too small.
