It's probably best to go with the Official Konami Pad ( I have some cheap 3rd party ones, too, and they're not too good ).
Once thing to look out for is that there's no buttons on the lower/right and lower/left corners. It messes you up if you think you pressed the left arrow, and you pressed the lower/left button too, which is probably set to act as a down button...Anybody who has a third party pad knows what I'm talking about ( the Konami pad doesn't have these buttons ).
There's a couple of things about soft pads: It's impossible to play "Heavy" or "Maniac" on them unless you stick them to the floor somehow. It's also impossible to play Double mode , also ( unless you like to do splits unintentionally

).
What I'm planning to do is get a piece of board the same size as the two pads and somehow fix the pads on the board ( so they can't slide away from each other ).
