Hello everyone,I would like to know the difference between both of this two since I don't own a PC engine system and there is a guy selling one brand new for the SNES for $25 I would like to pick it up but I hear everybody talk about is PC engine version so please shed some light on this if it is worth to get the SNES version. As you can see I don't know to much on this game but since I am big Castlevania fan I just want to pick up the best one thats all.

Get SNES version if you can't afford PCEngine one.

The main difference is the cut scenes

Music isn't as good as CD version

Game level seems repetitive and boring

All I can say is that the PC Engine version really kicks ass! Never played the SNES version, but it does not have the CD sound track, I also heard it wasn't that good.

The music is actually ported VERY well to the SNES version, here's what's missing though:

All the cutscenes
No playing as Maria
Not nearly as much branching, entire levels/chunks of levels missing
Richter's death sequence isn't bloody

The only way it really one-ups the PC version is that the final battle with Dracula is MUCH better and more difficult. A true old school Castlevania calibur challenge if you're stuck there without the Axe or Boomerang. :D

Yeah, they are two totally diff games (ok, to a nextent). But, both are excellent. Before passing a judgement, give the game a try. I admit that to some people, there is some increase in chaellenge. But, the SNES ver has much better graphics (should be on for PS). The sound isn't that bad as well. Get both if you can afford them. If not, sticking w/ SNES game isn't a bad idea at all.

The music is better on teh PC Engine but it's cd, it better be. He levels are a somewhat bigger and the last boss is harder, that's about all I can remember.

The PCE version was harder? You're out of your mind. The PCE version was a cakewalk compared to the SNES. Anyhow, for some detailed info, look here:

The Castlevania Dungeon. Gotta love it.

The SNES version blows and has bad music. That is the difference.

I thought the SNES version was easy... I blew through it until the very end, which was admittedly a little challenging, but still now what I would expect after playing the likes of Castlevania I or III.

snes version sucks, (note that i bought it the day i beat super castlevania 4) but it is crap. the snes can do sooo much better than that smouldering piece of poop. it plays and looks like the first three granted the first three were good, for the NES!!!! but the snes isn't supposed to lower itself down. with 8 more bits and the super fx chip i know it can do better, the gameplay put me off as well much too easy at times. and then your limited abilities I.E. you can't jump for shit, hamper it. the game is a collectors item and nothing more. this is a great game for those who are just getting into casltevania but if you've pplayed sotn or 4 you'll feel let down.
