I just recently bought a PAL version of ps2 as its the only version available in my country. It could play copies, originals,DVD,audio CDs and VCD(need a chip).
I just bought Devil May Cry and found out about that 5o Hz screen which is annoying. Those black border lines,i can't stand it.
Why isn't there a 60 Hz alteration?
What was capcom thinking?
SFEX3 also gave me the same problem.
Its one of those disadvantages owning a PAL system.
Another problem i experienced is that my ps1 games own load.Maybe most of them are imports.Whenever i popped in a ps1 game,it takes me to that screen where they ask you to either insert a ps2 or ps1 game.

I was a little dissapointed in DMC's 50 Hz screen.I was thinking of getting an import version of DMC but do i need any Boot disc or anything in order to play my imports on a PAL set?

There is no need for 50hz consoles anymore,i live in a PAL country but the tvs made in the last 5 years can run a full screen 60hz signal,so i conclude that the fuckers build the machines to 50hz spec
just cos a few people still have 5 year old+ tvs, ridiculous,i dont have a ps2,but i know the dreamcast let you set it to 50 or 60hz,if the ps2 dont let you change to 60hz
then sony are dickheads,period.

Actually the ps2 can do it.But its the developers who don't take advantage of it.Sony is not to blame.I hope sega uses that 60hz for the VF4 port.I am anticipating that game.

So its not the machine then?
oh i see,but why cant the companies attach a 50/60hz switch to there machines?(or rather why didnt they) it dont make sense to leave it out and leave it to
software developers.

I think most kids who play don't care about 50 or 60 hz. Why do you think the PSone is selling better than the Dreamcast. It's all about brands not quality and as long as people buy crappy pal-versions a lot of developpers won't create a 60 hz option in their games.
