MechWarrior 3 for PC. I have been playing them since the first one by Activision, and 3 is the best 'Mech simulator I have played, short of FASA's old BattleTech Centers.

I always loved the Virtual On series, twin sticks are the only way to play.

After fighters and shooters, Mech games are my fave, both the more tactical and the action stuff.

It all started for me on Amiga, with Mechforce, which initially was an amateur project but turned into a full FASA-supported gaming universe. The game was round-based, you steered your mechs which you manufactured/bought before on a hex map.

The game offers RPG elements such as dice rolling/percentages, character profiles, various stats and skills, level advancement, custom Mech design, map and mission designer and lots more.

Others Mech games I like, listed by system:

NGPC
Biomotor Unitron

Genesis/32x
Battletech, Metal Head

PC
Mechwarrior 2 and 3

PSX
Mechwarrior 2, Krazy Ivan

DC
Gundam Side Story 0079, Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram, Mobile Suite Gundam Federation vs Zion DX

How is Armored Trooper VOTOMS for the PS? I wanted to buy it, but I don't know anything of it.

Amen!

Recipe for kickass:
1 x Thor chassis
4 x Heavy Lasers
1 x Light lasers
Jumpjets

Pair that up with a Daishi with AC/20's and watch foes fall like flies hit by earthquake's fart

Iron Soldier.

Probably the only decent reason to own a jaguar.
Sadly the sequal was not quite as good, and the PSX installment was - umm - misguided is the best way I can think of describing it.

Probably the best thing ever to crawl out from Telegames' offices.

VOOT and Armored Core do it for me.

Also, even though these are hella old, I'd like to mention Assault Suits Leynos 1&2 and Assault Suits Valken, very awesome 16-bit mech action games. Wish there were more like these.

To answer that Megatron is to say that both VOTOMS games (Blue Knight and Lighting Slash) play like Armored Core, but do not have the depth that those games have. The games are chock full of stuff only fans of the Anime would like, and most ppl scoff at the ugly designs of the ATs versus the more asthetically pleasing Gundams and Valkyries of the more accepted shows. The games however, do kick ass and a lot can be done with them, though Lighting Slash has some of the most annyonig music in any game ever, and making money to buy upgrades to newer and badder ATs is an excersize in patience. So are the VOTOMS games worth playing let alone buying? YES! But one should have already seen at least the 52-Episode TV series available from CPM/US Manga Corps on VHS or the DVDs from Nutech Digital to at least have an understanding of the setting for a much broader expericene.
