I'd have to see the actual image quality before making a recommendation. I will say this though: plasmas are for people with more money than sense. Sort of like Twinkle Star Sprites AES

Plasma image quality, even with an HD source, doesn't compare to higher-end HD projection sets. And the new LCD-based projection sets feature a slimmer profile and larger screen sizes. I've never seen one in person though, only pictures of engineering samples floating around the office, so I can't make a determination regarding the image quality.

Plasmas are so overrated though.

Is 1 million pixel res better than 3 million pixel combined res? That word "combined" throws me off.

I don't knwo if I can dis plasmas. I find them sexy, and yeah, I have no sense. I'm mr. instinct.

Go for the 60 inch. You'll like it more.

What are you doing with your old TV? (dibs)

There are 3 different WXGA LCD panels that are projected onto the screen (like a CRT projection TV with 3 different lenses) with 1 million pixels each. So technically, the resolution isn't 3 million pixels as there will be lots of overlap.

I've heard (and read) that in terms of technical superiority, the Plasma's are seriously overrated. They're just "wow" devices right now, nothing more.

I'd say go for the more square inches in the 60 inch.

They still haven't refined the plamsa TVs, from what I read, they still can't really show true black. Instead they show nothing which, getting really into it, isn't the same thing. Since a Plasma TV sounds like a technical marvel, that sort of kills it's appeal (IMO).

Regardless, congrats on the new TV, whichever one you choose

(and you'd better show us a picture with a Neo Game being played on it!!!)

yucky, you spend far to much $ on things that look nice (and in this case) dont offer the bang for the buck. it looks like you are looking for A very slender set. if i am wrong and that is not the case i recomend going with a pioneer elite projection tv.

Only drawback is that it still has the burn-in problems. I'd like to have a newer technology (DLP/Plasma/LCD) that I could game on, but they all seem to have trouble with blacks.

Yucky, who makes that LCD model?

That's a nice TV.

Both TVs are made by Sony and here are the links:
Plasma
LCD Projection

I'm really leaning toward the LCD Projection because it's immune to burn-in unlike the CRT Projection sets and plasma sets.

That's interesting. I didn't really investigate the Plasma much, so I didn't realize that they still had the burn-in probs. I was looking at a DLP for the same reason, but it was a matter of a gorgeous 64" display for >$6K vs. a 55" DLP for >$8500. ... and the DLP didn't look as good and was lower resolution. My Pioneer is still inside the 30 day period, so I could switch directions. Doubt it'll happen though.

Check out the DLP projector from Plus called the Piano. It's 800x848 resolution (I think) so HDTV is out of the question but DVDs look awesome on it. (I saw it at a local HT store.) It's tiny (size of a hardcover book) and only costs $3000! I think you can get up to a 6-7' picture so the bang for the buck is incredible. Here is a review if you want to read more about it. You can also check out the forums at www.avsforums.com.

Due to this awesome little projector, I think I've made up my mind to get the LCD projection unit and get the projector for my theater room in the basement when I get around to finishing it. I can't wait as it'll be a fun project.
