You might try Magic Knight Rayearth, it's got some mechas and alot of the adventure/fantasy genre in it.

Maze kicks ass... it's by the same people who did it, and it's one of the strangest animes you'll ever see.

The main character has a bit of "Jekyll/Hyde" thing going, and her Hyde side is an ultrapowerful, ultraviolent, ultrapsychotic, ultrahorny man. And when he gets behind the controls of Dulger, there's gonna be hell to pay.

You probably have already seen:

Akira
Ninja Scroll
Crying Freeman (this has like 7 parts, but I don't know if any of the sequels are as good as the first one).
Vampire Hunter D is OK, a bit weird.
Wicked City is OK, twisted.

Sorry if you were just looking for series.

You know, I've been trying to remember the name of this one movie but it's on the tip of my tongue...it's about this futuristic soldier who's a ruthless killing machine...he like takes on an entire army on some far-flung planet...the final scene there's this bomb about to go off and he's in a mech suit and he like crushes this guy's neck but you don't know if he gets blown up anyway or not...what the hell is it called?! I think the title is an acronym for the kind of soldier this guy is, like "MD" something standing for "Most Dangerous" something or other. Sorry to ramble on this thread.

I think this is what you're referring to. I've never seen the anime in question, but it has been universally panned, and even awarded the title of "worst anime ever" by some...

This is just a guess, marvelguy68, but I take it you're more into fantasy-themed anime? If so, you could try out Orphen, Arc The Lad, or Sorcerer Hunters (oddly enough, all three series were released by ADV Films). Also, give Those Who Hunt Elves and Dragon Half a shot (ironically, those two series were also released by ADV Films as well).

Ninja Scroll
Slayers
Kenshin Trust and Betrayal
Lodoss War TV Series (Not sure which one you have seen...but if you hven't seen this, see it)

These may not fit your taste but you might want to give them a try:
The Castle of Cagliostro
Cowboy Bebop
Akira (anime and manga)
Ghost in the Shell
Ranma 1/2 (I like the manga better but its your choice. not sure if you'll like it, but I think it's awesome.)

Also something that looks good (I haven't seen/read) is Nausica: Valley of the Wind.
Dragonball Manga by Viz is good too.

If you're looking for more, here are some of my faves:

Ranma 1/2- Like someone said before me, the manga is better, but its still pretty good.

Saber Marionette J- Girls and mechas, sometimes a combo of the two... classic.

The Slayers- This is a great series, mainly slapstick though.

Neon Genesis Evangelion- Probably the most popular mecha series ever, for good reason.

Magic User's Club- This is another teenage sex comedy, with magic! One of the most hilarious series I've seen.

yes, insaneben, u hit the nail on the head. I liked the fantasy anime, but not the stuff that emphasizes too much humor. also, if anyone wants, ive got the record of the lodoss war, both series, on vcd. if u havent seen them, or want to watch them, just yell. thanks

Why has nobody mentioned PATLABOR?

I think they're two of the best anime films out there (just my opinion)

Don't know what the cartoon series was like tho.

In that case, focus on Orphen and Arc The Lad. Both have some humor, but are more serious in nature than Sorcerer Hunters, Slayers, Dragon Half, or Those Who Hunt Elves.

Also, give some Miyazaki films (My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke) a shot. They're well worth your time.

Also, for the record, marvelguy68 is looking for fantasy-themed anime (meaning swords & sorcery; possibly).

You can't beat Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture for a video game adaptation! It's so good that you wouldn't even have to be a fan of the game series to appreciate it; there's great action from start to finish.

Evangelion is my favorite series of all time. It's not just about the mechs! I've got half the series on DVD (as soon as the fourth installment arrives in the mail...hopefully tomorrow). I get ridiculed in some circles, but I say watch the dub over the sub; I honestly think it's better that way.

Akira has been re-released by Pioneer, and it's 100X better than the original dub (plus the DVD contains the original dialog with optional subs). I'm lucky enough to have one of the limited edition tins. Kai rocks!!!!!

It is mecha, but it's a favorite among fans that hate mecha.

Turn-A Gundam is my favorite and I whoel-heartedly recommend it.
