The first thing I remember thinking in this movie was "holy shit, John Ritter gained weight..." Well, anyhow, his acting is a lot better now than in Three's Company (but Skin Deep was a great movie too). Anyhow, the movie is not about John Ritter, but his son, who's this intellectual 15 year old obsessed with his step mother and pretty much any other middle aged woman. One line in the movie describes it as a whole quite well - "like the Graduate, but without graduating."
Anyhow, it's a much better way to spend you time than watching Ballistic. Take my word for it.
