I recently watched Ninja Scroll and it was very good but i noticed a few similarities to the Samurai series:

1. The main character is JUBEI - vagabond ninja for hire

2. Dakuan is an absolute double of Caffine Nicotine

3. Kagero is a double of Nakoruru (minus bird)

4. even the main baddie resembles Heinhart Seiger from ss2

5. any finally some fights in the movie actually take place in some ss2 stages - Jubei + Nicotine's

Any bodey else noticed else or am i just rambling?????

Nope-i noticed that too.
But i think it's ok-all the other characters are weird enough to make it different...
..and the real Sam.Spirits movie sucked anyway,so i am glad for this GOOD one!

Director of Ninja Scroll is Yoshiaki Kawajiri.

I think he had a hand in the character design in SS2.

Kind of like how the guy who did character design in SS 64 2: Asura Zanmaden was the creater of rurouni kenshin (read RK "freetalk" sections around Enishi episodes to find out about this).

Your right, Haomaru's character is based off a legend and so are most of the other characters. So it really isn't a rip, but more like there own take on some of the characters in the legend.

There are sime similarities, but it's all based on the same premise... plus I don't think SS had nearly as much explicit sex in it.

Pretty much every Eastern-style sword-fighting videogame or anime is based upon the same set of mythos.

Some compare LB to Rurouni Kenshin, and SS has a few characters based on historical figures* (Haohmaru --> Miyamoto Musashi; Ukyo --> Sasaki Kojiro Ganryu; Amakusa Shirou --> as himself**).

*And some characters not based on any real-life figures; for example, Galford***, the "American Ninja," could not be as he is, because America barely existed at the time, and they didn't even approach Texas (which brings us to Earthquake ) at the time, let alone San Francisco; and Nakoruru is "basically your kawaii anime girl with a sword." ^_^'

**Amakusa, just as his real-life equivalent, seemed to lead a rebellion of sorts when a Shimabara region daimyo falsified crop reports to claim that the yields were twice as plentiful as they could have ever possibly been, and then taxed the villagers for 50% of the reported yields. So, Amakusa in real life was a lot like the shemale possessed Christian sorcerer--except for the shemale, possessed, or sorceror part; he was really a man who happened to be in the right place at the right time. That said, he was quite charismatic.

*** That said, Galford does seem to be a bit like Vash the Stampede ("Love and peace, they're neat!") after listening to The Vapours for a really long time ("I think I'm turning Japanese!"). Maybe in SSV his ending should involve disciplining Earthquake and Gen-an... he could actually dress them in clothes like his own.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Ninja Scroll was first.

I guess the designers got inspired.

And from Fist of the North Star. Check out the referee. His Tung Fu Rue Silhouette Move is showing him with naked torso and the famous seven wounds!

Fist of the North Star was also affecting Art of Fighting. In example the names in japanese:

Hakutonoken (Fist) an Ryukounoken (AoF)

And look at the zanretsuken and geneikyaku moves!
