Contra is one of those games (like Metal Slug) that just can't be good if done in 3d and should always remain 2d. I remember the PSX version perfectly. I was a pseudo 3d game with a 45 degree view and it was such unplayable that I went back with the game to my video store the same day (since I rent the game, hopefully I was able to rent something else). I don't understand why game developers have the feeling that 2d games must be converted to 3d. I mean, put a great 2d game with billions colors and zillions frames of animation. Konami learn their lesson with Castlevania on the N64 though.
But I think I get it though. The newer consoles are design to handle polygons fast not sprites. That's very unfortunate. I don't care, I still have my SNES and my Genesis and my NES so long live Contra and the likes (Metal Slug).
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start!!!
