Ok, this sucks. Last night, I tried to install Windows XP and once it finally finished, it said that it couldn't be started so to protect my computer or some shit. I was pissed, but I reinstalled Windows 2000 which worked, so I didn't have to kill anyone... then. Now, my sound card isn't working and my monitor is displaying 16 colors at 800x600 (note: my brother will be fixing these problems, soon, so I don't need help with them). On top of that, I went to go burn some files off of my old computer (which I've been meaning to do for ages) and, after the 30 or so minutes it took to boot up, I realized that the external (USB) cd-writer I had wouldn't do me any good because I didn't have any cd-burning software installed on that machine. Joy. I hate these machines of satan...

Edit: Oh, I forgot to whine about the fact that all of my preferences and stuff have been deleted, so I'm having to redo all of that.

Have a nice day.

Welcome to the wonderful world of computers where I had to format my 2 hd (20 and 80 gig) this past week to get my DV equipment to work without crashing. I understand how you feel...

i don't know whether to laugh at you or just sympathize with you...

obviously you don't have your sound card drivers or video card drivers installed... something required for your pc to recognize that your video card/sound card is there and use it to it's best possible abilites (that is if you're using the most up to date drivers <img src="graemlins/makeface.gif" border="0" alt="[Make Face]" /> ).

same goes for your burner.

your files and prefrences are gone because you formatted which kinda translates to ERASED EVERYTHING.

Yes, I know it's just a drivers issue, so don't laugh at me too much. Yeah, sonic1687, I'm a n00b to PCs. I'm gonna get this all sorted out today or tomorrow, it's just frustrating.

Of all of the people I have heard mention Windows XP, only one was happy with it. Everyone else had problems. That's why I'm still running 98SE.

I loved Windows XP until Service Pack 1. Now I get spontaneous reboots constantly. Worse, I reinstalled XP twice since then and put SP1 back on each time b/c I hadn't figured out the cause.

I put Linux on yesterday and that's cool so far. Of course few games...

JHendrix, I remember seeing in a Media Play catalog that they were selling the Linux version of Quake III Arena for TWO DOLLARS! Go figure.
