I don't know if you would call it a horror movie, but I really liked Seven.

Pet Sematary was pretty decent, but the book was much, much better, as the film cut out two crucial elements that made the book so damn freaky.

I love a lot of horror films, but very few of them ever manage to really creep me out... the only one that's ever managed to set my skin shivering like the original Silent Hill on PSX did... well, honestly, it'd be The Ring. That film has the serious creep going. :)

Oh,I forgot about "THE FOG"
That movie still gives me the creeps, especially the part when the hook comes through the fog on the top of the lighthouse and goes "clank"

It=S.King gets deep on this one
Friday The 13th part 1=for some reason not seeing em get killed creeps me out
Creepshow 2=Watching that grrl getting eaten by that fly trap always brings a tear to my eye
Demon Knight=this tales from the crypt movie only gets props from me cause it's bloody and I saw it on my first date
Pet Cemetary=loved the theme song but to this day this movie creeps me out, i think the second one could have been better
The Shining=I love the original Kubrick version and the tv version with Chris Webber
The Fog=like chris1 said: Hook, light house=scared out my wits and popcorn all over the place
Jaws=I avoided the beach for a year
Night of The leapest(sp?)=The thought of being nibbled to death by a giant bunny is a lil unnearving(sp?)

I dunno... I finally watched Suspiria a month or so ago, on the recommendation of many people. I just don't see what all the fuss is about, truthfully. While Dario Argento was/is quite skilled at crafting some very striking cinematography, the story itself was very weak. As soon as the (rather generic) premise was made clear, I knew exactly how the film would end. The writing was nothing particularly impressive (character development is your friend), and the acting didn't do much for me, either.

Having been told for so many years that Suspiria is one of the defining horror films out there, I was more than a tad disappointed. Any Argento fans out there who can recommend any of his other films that are more worth the time?

ri~ight, that was more of a comedy then a horror, like Jason X!

Night of the living dead in Black and white was the best horror flick.

Dawn of the Dead was a great film, yes, but it falls more into the realm of biting social satire (pun intended) than real "horror." :)

OK, here's the deal with Suspiria-

Yeah the story is weak, and it doen't even make that much sense, BUT it doesn't have to-because the movie is basically a vivid nightmare put to film.

Hear me out on this-

First off, the colors. Argento bought a bunch of old 1950's technicolor stock to shoot Suspiria on- that's why the film has such garish reds and greens. Nightmarish, hallucinatory colors.

The music is gleefully over the top, with Goblin's pulsing soundtrack trying to freak you out at every turn (My girlfriend can't even listen to the MP3's).

The whole film is basically a surreal nightmare, really, it's all style and very little substance, but in the end, that's what makes Suspiria what it is.

A vivid, surreal nightmare filled with gloriously realised and sustained set pieces.

As far as Argento's other films:

Deep Red
Tenebre (If you like Deep Red)
Opera
Sleepless (Only if you like slasher films though)

1.The Exorcist
This is the only scary movie that can still freak me out to this day. I bought the new version on DVD when it came out and the added scenes made it even worse on me. Especially the walk down the stairs scene.

The Fog definitely is among my most-loved horror movies ever. I saw it when I was like 12 and nearly shit my pants. I had nightmares for one week, but I developed a solid obsession with it till today. It's one of those movies I have seen for countless times, but it's always fresh, new and scary whenever I see it.

neobuyer hits the nail on the head with his list. Gee, ya got some great taste man!!

I love the first two Phantasm parts. Cool mortuary atmosphere, while the other parts tend to get silly in the 2nd half of the movie.

Some more must-see's:

Hellraiser 1 & 3
Excorcist 3 (with (non ectoplasm-spittin') George C. Scott, really a masterpiece)
In the Mouth of Madness
Body Snatchers
Blair Witch Project (okay, most ppl have seen it... the movie itself is a bit crappy, but the elaborated story is a pure joy for my Lovecraftian heart... ;) )
Prince of Darkness
Omen 1
Candy Man (the full-length version)

...etc... ...too many to list...

I think it was more the fact that her eyes were gone that made it startling!!!
