ok, ok, ok peeps "a verdict" on the recent kojima game: metal gear solid 2 sons of liberty, ok???
...the gameplay/control functionality - that part did not disappoint. that one surpassed the psx mgs, no doubt there. examples of this is snake/raiden can peek when flattened on walls then point weapon and surprise guards and shake em off for OSP. the body dragging function is very kewl addition. the hanging is also kewl addition (plus how the animation of snake/raiden does when flipping or back flipping into it). the high frequency blade is kewl but the control scheme for it is BAAADD!!!! snake's roll or raiden's torso whip when running is very kewl.
...the contents/options/replayability - this one also surpass the original like collection of dog tags for later items to get after finishing the game. the picture taking option and some funny knacks you get from otacon when viewing the pics. the newer weps that are in it all of them are great to have but i think konami shouldn't have removed the famas rifle and konami should've had snake carry rifles in the tanker level as well instead of raiden huggin it all in the plant level.
...altho it is somewhat true what brandi and biomotor had indicated about the storyline - the somewhat bad thing that konami/kojima did with the story had already been inherent in all of of the MG's series and sadly it keeps inheriting the same story flaws. here's the gist, the conceptual introductions are great when it started it gets to the end and it ended up having so many holes in it. when all the other successor MG games followed, konami/kojima tried to fill the holes of the storylines, good fills i might add, again in the end the MG stories produced more holes into it. all thru the years of improved technology integrated into another sequel of MG, more great story fillers where introduced to fill the gaps in story left out by the last MG game. then this cycle of "stellar story-telling to fill the gaps the last metal gear story left but ended up creating even more holes in metal gear story" had continued in tradition inherent into the latest metal gear solid entry: the sons of liberty. as you guys may have noticed, i mean to address even the very old MG players out there, the metal gear story had progressed but the whole point of what the background of the metal gear story is just stretched way out that konami already lost the actual direction of what metal gear story is intended to go. maybe in the end the metal gear story will end up where kojima intended to direct it to begin with but the strands created by the sequels is just too stretched out he might be having a hard time to tie in or fill in the gaps, in which by the way, case in point the sons of liberty storyline did fill some gaps of the last mgs story but in the end introduced new "holes" that needs to be filled or tied in later on should kojima decide to write the next mgs storyline.
...to conclude, the PS2 metal gear solid 2 sones of liberty product itself, viewed as a videogame to play certainly did not disappoint, but if viewed as entirety since this videogame did mutually merged into the metal gear storyline, then yes, mgs2 is disappointing only because the audience are prolly tired of the dragged up routine of filling gaps into holes of the last metal gear story, tho filled well, in the end introduced yet another series of holes into the story. this is the achilles heel of the whole metal gear franchise. who knows maybe that is why kojima is opting to bow out of the metal gear franchise now to start fresh and regroup. but even this is wild conjecture and speculation in my part. <IMG SRC="smilies/ohno.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/ohno.gif" border="0">
