I have AT&T cable modem service, and I just plugged it in and everything works fine.
Are you still gonna try to get online??
The "dorks" are waiting to play with you.

yeah, definitely prepare for some trouble... most likely you'll need to find the correct I/O Port

Either configure the BBA to take a static IP (recommended for solution 2) and configure the rest of the settings by hand, or set the router to DHCP (probably is by default).
The second problem I can think of is that the firewall in most routers is not allowing a connection back from the server. If this is the case, find out which IP is being given to the BBA and put it in the DMZ host setting. Or you can open explicit ports for it in the router.
It will probably give you about 20mins of trouble, but I can't see any incompatiblities, and once up it should be up without issue. (atleast if you configured the Gamecube for static IP).

Cap, most routers (especially the Linksys) is configured for DHCP, so I wouldn't worry much. When I had PSO on DC it played just fine hooked up to my Router, and I didn't have to set it up in the DMZ or any other shit like that.
ANYWAY, if you can't just plug the damn thing in there and have it work, P2P me in Chat or just IM me I can walk you through making it work on your router (hopefully you have a linksys).
Peace
