What PC games do you play?

I know we are few and far between here at NG.com, but I figure it'd be interesting to see what Neo/Fighting game fans play on PC.

Personally I'm more into competitive online games, but I have some other interests. Anyway list what you like to play, how often and why you like it so much as opposed to all the others in that genre.

1.) Warcraft 3

I'm insane over this damn game. I am actually not very good at RTS games in general, it takes me a lot of actual WORK to get good at these games. Fortuneatly with enough practice I can actually make it to higher levels of play. Currently I'm a Level 7 Orc player on Azeroth (the US East Bnet server), I'd be a little higher but I had a brief affair with the Undead that I have since left behind.

Why do I like the game? Well, like I said I'm not much of a RTS player. My first RTS game was StarCraft and good lord was I addicted to that game, I played it solidly for almost over a year. Then I went briefly with Red Alert 2, but I really wasn't all that addicted to it. After that its been over a year since I touched a RTS, I tried Warcraft 3 and at first I thought it sucked ass. The Hero system was just mad different and I didn't like the idea of having to "creep" (kill monsters on the map for experience) and the amount of micromanagement that was required by Hero's and special units alike. Anyway after giving it a second chance about 3 weeks ago I just took to the damn thing, and I love it for exactly the reasons that I hated it at first. Its so radically different than any other game I've ever played and the sheer amount of strategies that exist and the almost equal amount of counters for those strategies are just amazing and fun to play with.

Although it has some progblems (mostly with the Undead, "forest-walking" is a BITCH and it's mad hard to counter dual aura massed Ghouls), they are pretty fair with the patches even though us "race fanboys" like to bitch about getting nerfed.

2.) Unreal Tournament 2003

FPS games are like my love, where the majority of my "gaming skillz" lie. Mainly because I played these things competitively constantly from Duke Nukem 3d on a Modem to Modem connection on a 14.4 connection to really learning how to "frag" on GamePro's Dedicated Quake 2 server (Thanks to the editors if they're reading this). Although I'm not as much a fan of the more "realistic" shooters like Operation Flashpoint and Rainbow 6, and I absolutely abhore the plague that is Counterstrike (bugs, scripts, unbalanced weapons, bunny hoppers, and cheaters) I still consider myself a FPS junkie. As for UT2k3 being my favorite shooter, well before this I was a Quake 3 fanboy even though UT got more gameplay (my LAN buddies liked it better). But 2k3 took all the aspects of Q3 that I loved (the EXTREMELY fast gameplay and the extra required accuracy of the weapons) and put them together in the best looking, and best playing FPS I've ever played. And while I'm a Deathmatch whore I can really get into Bombing Run when the mood calls me, especially at LAN parties. All the weapons are great, there are situations where I will wish I had one weapon over another. The Rockets don't do insane splash damage anymore (hence they require more accuracy like Q3's did) and you can't load up 6 of em for a skill-less n00b kill. Plus did I mention it plays even FASTER than Quake 3? It's like they made this game for specifically for me.

3.) Neverwinter Nights

I haven't given this as much attention as I think I should have, probably cause I want to get better at the other games mentioned and start to Own servers or eventually get ranked somewhere on the Azeroth ladder.

Still NWN is one of the best PC RPG's ever played, I'm a D&D junkie in real life so the 100% adaptation of 3rd Edition into a PC game is just amazing to see, I just love it. The story is pretty good and it offers a lot more to me than the EQ fest that Diablo 2 was, plus with the module creation tools you can just create more shit to play. Simply one of the best games to be produced, especially if you're into RPG's.

Honroable Mention: Worms Arrmageddon

It's like Tanks on crack but with funny ass worms and insane weapons. Flying Sheep, napalm drops, and the MOTHER FUCKING HOLY HANDGRENADE OF ANTIOCH! Hallelujah!

Well that's all for me. I know this is a console place, but I'd like to see less of the "PC games suck" cause what these people don't understand is that these games could ALMOST NEVER be played at the same skill level on a console. They don't let you comfortably have a Mouse and Keyboard setup handy and for all of these games (with the possible exception of Worms) you need the precise control they offer. And despite what you'd like to think they will NEVER offer the same level of control.

Peace

I haven't played any PC games consistently in quite a while, the last one being Max Payne when that came out. But, I have played a little of:

Warcraft III
Awesome. Simply, awesome. I bought the collector's edition that comes with the art book and stuff and it's definetely worth the extra dough.

Freedom Force
Really fun, but gets old if you don't use the codes to just make your own guys right from the get go. I can't wait for City of Heroes.

Team Fortress
Honestly, I haven't touched this in over a year, but the game deserves a mention because I clocked in more hours on this FREE add-on to Half-Life when they released it than any other single game, period. Well, Quake II possibly has more, but that's about it. Did Valve just jump off the face of the Earth? Where the Hell's Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2? Remember when they BOTH were expected to come out in December of 1999 or something like that?! Gawd.

The new Wolfenstien is awesome but you need to play it at a LAN party with people you know otherwise it's hard to play as a coheasive unit (clans are a good way to do that online, but well Clans suck)

But if it wasn't for UT2k3 then I'd have to say that RtCW and Jedi Knight 2 would be contesting for my #1 spot (the Heavy Repeater 0wnZ j00!).

Peace

F1RC - My favorite Formula 1 sim.

LiveForSpeed - Another racing sim with more normal type street cars. Only a Alpha/Beta demo, but it still has some of the best physics of any driving sim. It also has the best multiplayer code of any racing game ever made.

Halflife - DayOfDefeat mod and CS sometimes. I hate Unreal 2003's spammy play and Wolfensteins bad maps.

Morrowind - Tons of user created mods and some professional ones such as models done by one of the Unreal 2003 modelers. Expansion pack coming out in a few weeks.

The Sims - Play it once in a while. Really only installed because my brother loves designing things since that's what he does in life.

My options for gaming are limited on an AMD 350.
I sometimes play SmallRockets games like Jetboat Superchamps, Art is Dead and Star Monkey, but they dont run too well on my creaky old system.

Lately I've been playing a lot of Unreal Tournament 2003. I've also been a big fan of Team Fortress Classic.

The game I've mostly been playing online this year though by far is Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I'm not even sure at this point why I love that game so much, but there's still times I'll start playing it online at 8 PM and next thing I know the sun's up and I have to go to work. <img src="graemlins/glee.gif" border="0" alt="[Glee]" />

Oh hell yeah! I remember playing that game back in '97! Then they made you pay for it then stopped playing :( Good to see you still don't have to though. Countless hours of my life spent on that game, indeed.

Ditto

That game kept me up at all hours of the night during my high school years, most addicting game I've ever played.

You should try it again, they upgraded it to a new version called "Continuum", it allows for some pretty slick graphical mods.

Aside from Diablo 2 and its expansion packs, not many.

I'm more of a console gamer myself. I spend practically all day working on a PC and the last thing I want to do is sit at my computer desk at home using my home PC even more to play games. Whenever I use my PC, I get into "work mode", so this type of mood is not the best for game playing.

If I'm gonna play video games, I prefer to do so from the comfort of my couch, on my large screen TV, on a console where I don't have to bother tweaking my graphics card settings, patches, etc. I can just plug in a game or disc and start playing, simple as that!

I never have time to play anything anymore. Yet I get more games knowing full well, I haven't logged more than 2 days on a previous game. I keep thinking one day i'll have all sorts of free time.. still waiting on that day. Meanwhile my latest purchases are...
Age of Mythology - not a bad game, If I can get some people I know to actually play this game I can start to actually enjoy it!

Battle Realms: Winter of the Wolf -
A bit disappointed with this , but as it's just an expansion (and didn't cost too much) i'll be ok. Again, I don't waste my time with single player mode, gotta get some freaks to play with online

I'm waiting for my local EB to get Mechwarrior 4:Mercenaries. I've loved mechwarrior since Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. Mech 4:Revenge was ok but I took it back because I just wasn't crazy about the mission stuff, but Mercenaries is EXACTLY what I wanted.

Neverwinter Nights - Been taking far too much of my life. Multiplayer is where it is at.

OpenRPG - Well I dont know if this really counts. I just started a new campeign so my sundays 1-4pm is gone for 6 - 8 months.

Starcraft - Still play it. Still suck at it :D

AvP2 - I don't know why but my soud crapped out on me recently. So not enough attention.

IWD2 - The challange is back. I had to recreate my party recently for I could go no further in the game. I ended up min/maxing my "tank" barbarian in order to get passed this one part. But unfortunatly as soon as I beat that part I lost almost all interest to play the game.

I think that that is it. . .
