Well, I've spent some quality time this weekend with my new Shenmue IIx and it's great! I'm taking my time, savoring every moment, building up my cash account the first time around. The second time I play through it, I'll try for a fast finish, but for now, I'm taking my time! That's the beauty of the Shenmue series, you can play it however you want for the most part!

Anyway, has anyone else purchased the XBOX version and if so, how far have you progressed? Any cool moments or secrets uncovered yet? Post your thoughts and findings!!

Don't plan on purchasing it till it hits the bargain bin, but...

There's a sidequest with that girl that wakes you up in the morning (if you aren't there yet, you'll understand what I mean) that I'd recommend doing. You'll have to read up on the details (it's date sensitive, IIRC, so it's tough to figure out on your own)...

I have met the girl (Xiushing's assistant) and progressed enough to the point where I'm currently doing some service to the Man Mo Temple (moving the books outside). I've noticed that after the day's work is done, the little girl can be found in the temple or outside doing some work. Surprisingly, she has TONS of various dialog snippets, so I think I see how a side quest could be possible. Every time you ask her something, she comes back with a different question or conversation! Cool stuff!

I definitely plan on buying the strategy guide so I can go back and play through it again after beating if myself to see the areas and events that I may have missed! I love the Shenmue series! :D

Yeah, that's her. There's a bunch of optional/secret stuff you can do with her.

Me too, I didn't see any point in spending a bunch of money on an X Box so I could put up with shitty voice acting. I love the DC version's box art, it's pretty snazzy. The manuals are nice too.

Well, I live in Europe so I could play no prob the DC version last year. I guess the point is the true US release (do you think this is the reason why it wasn't released in DC in USA?), as for the gamers-not-used-to-imports this is a brand new game. I still think they should have released Shenmue 1 in xbox too.

What I'm looking forward to is Shenmue 3, I need to know how the story finishes. I guess I'll have to wait...

this game sucks.
the best part about it is taking the snapshots
and you only get 126 pictures worth.
i already took that many pictures!
and i m not even half way through the game!?!?
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr <img src="graemlins/veryangry.gif" border="0" alt="[Very Angry]" /> <img src="graemlins/veryangry.gif" border="0" alt="[Very Angry]" /> <img src="graemlins/veryangry.gif" border="0" alt="[Very Angry]" />
game is cool though.
hate to stomp on anyones party though when i
say this is almost exactly the same thing as the
DC one.
the only improvements i saw was the light effects
at nite which for some reason gives everyone this
freakish glow.
havent seen any slow down yet.
still a fantastic game.
its basically the DC version in almost every way
but still beats alot of the stuff that comes out today
even without improvements.
and for the record i dont think the dubbing is bad
at all.
i liked the first ones dubbing too so i m pretty much happy
:)

Exactly! Those of us who bought and played the US version of Shenmue 1 are used to the dubbing (which isn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be) and it's kind of comforting to have it back in the XBOX sequel. Somehow the story progression is more believable when you have many of the same voice actors returning to do the voices for Ryo and company.

95% of US Shenmue fans never bought or played the Jpn version, so to us the fact that the XBOX game is dubbed with US voices instead of JPN with ENG subtitles makes no difference.

I still think Sega released Shenmue 2 after a year for US market is a big mistake.
Most of the fans had already play it either Japan or Euro version on DC,
Leaving only a small market who will buy this game. (don think this game will sell alot of copys)
What they should had done is release shenmue 2 for US market a year ago and make shenmue 3 exclusive on X-box. (instead of wasting a year porting shenmue 2)
Everybody will rush down to buy a X-box just to continue the story.

It is just amazing to see that Shenmue I was originally developed on the Saturn, that video I saw was pretty amazing for a Saturn game :)

Actually, the game is selling quite well...check the EB and Gamestop charts. Hopefully it will sustain this momentum into the next few months. This isn't exactly a "killer app" title that Microsoft is banking on to sell more XBOX's...I mean, last November I was going to buy an XBOX anyway for HALO and Project Gotham, and the news of Shenmue II being cancelled and picked up for an XBOX release was great and made my decision to go XBOX even better!

I'm sure many of the true fans who've been following this game already went out and bought XBOX systems in anticipation of this game months ago.
