I got to freaking world 8-4 in super mario bros. for the NES and I keep freaking dying, first its the gayass hammer bros. {worst game enemy IMO} Then its just stupid crap like landing a jump right in front of an enemy or not being able to jump and dying, i get to the freaking last level and i keep dying, so I just said forget it and shut off my NES, time to go play some Vice City and some atari

Don't say shit about "difficult" until you've tried the final level in TMNT for the NES. Fucking Technodrome!

I dare say there isn't a being alive that has beat this game. TMNT and Ikari Warriors for the NES, both impossible to beat. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

Mario 1 isnt hard. If you have the GBC Mario or The Super NES All Stars, try beating the lost levels. It's enormously challenging!

The lost levels are like Super Mario 1 on Crack.

Trivia: The lost levels is actually Super Mario 2 in Japan. Kind of a cop out for a sequal, I guess, and I'm glad we got a redressed Doki.

Ahh yes, I never did beat Battletoads. People thought I was a God for gettting so far though, way into the underwater level where I would die many, many times. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

Many a broken controller resulted from playing that game. And it is the only game that actually put you into a trance. While on those road bikes and the screen is literally blurred it's moving so fast, the only way to come out alive is to go into Zen mode and focus on the objective at hand. About a minute later you are victorious and you didn't even realize you were playing. <img src="graemlins/tickled.gif" border="0" alt="[Tickled]" />

True and I'd also like to add to the story. I've read on many NES related web sites that Nintendo didn't release the Jap version of Super Mario 2 in the US because they thought it would be to hard for us. I had All Stars for the SNES a few years ago and I must say, the big N wasn't kidding. Thank God for the battery save though!

Shoot, I almost beat Battletoads 2 years ago without the Game Genie. Believe me, that b**** was hard than a mofo! TMNT one and two was hard. Two was hard without the codes. In one, I just couldnt get past the part when your in the car for the first time.

I used to own my brothers and any friends that dared to play 2nd player in Mario Bros by pausing the game right when they were about to jump a gap. They would unpause it and no matter what point in the jump they were at they would immediately begin a downward decent into the depths of Mario Bros hell (or wherever those pits led too).

They tried it on me a couple times but I got so pissed I grabbed the controller cord and swung it around my head like a weaping and cracked their faces with it. Other hard as shit games include RAMPAGE! Not that it's hard, but you must literally sit there destroying city after city for like 6 hours in order to win. Most men would give up after 30 mins or so, but one day a friend and I did the impossible. At like 2AM in the morning we got the ending that dreams are made of..."CONGRATULATIONS!"

Ahh, that night we slept as champions.

LMAO, when I used to play SMB at my friend's house he always did that. I remember those days in 5th grade, we'd mess around in Pokemon blue and red and clone pokemon and mess around with making new gameshark and gamegenie codes. Man, those days sure were fun, probably because i NEVER ONCE got homework in 5th grade (middleschool made up for lost times and high school is doing a good job of it)

I'm surprised you're having this much difficulty with the original NES SMB.

I recently played this game again after MANY years and had no problem finishing it in my first attempt. Sure, there were some areas where I died repeatedly, but all the memorization and long hours I spent on this classic title back in 1987 paid off for me.

It's amazing how after all those years of not having played it, many of the areas and patterns were instantly recognizable to me. Funny how one's memory works!
