Your Favorite Shooter?

For me its the most unlikely. ASO 2 on the neo. I just love this game to death. Its not the hardest shooter ever but its alot of fun. I also consider myself and amateur at shooters in general. I recently got Gunbird 2, and Giga wing. Still like ASO 2 the best. I guess its just one of those classics.

I also am into Metal Slug 2. Hell, its the only one I got of the series! As far as Genre's go....
Its always been fighters and RPG's for me. Heck, since I can remember thats been my main Genre's of choice. So whats your favorite shooter, and why?

I have always been partial to the origional Raiden and Radien Fighters.

I have both pcb's but find myself playing Pulstar and the R-Type compilation disk for PS these days.

Not a big fan of shooters myself, but some of my favorites are R-Type, Raiden DX and Blazing Star.

I'm sure there are better ones, but I haven't played too many.

Maybe Thunder Force III or Final Soldier.

Blazing Star is also cool, but I don't think it's the best shooter for me.

-Galactic Attack/Layer Section - Saturn
-Axelay - Snes
-Darius Gaiden - Saturn

Ikaruga seems great, but I haven't spent quite enough time with it yet to determine how much I like it.

Any of the Thunderforce games

They are are amazing - Thunderforce 5 is the best out of the lot - excellent game and amazing soundtrack

Then I reckon its a toss up between defender and r-type :D

There are a lot of great shooters out there, but Shienryu has to be my current all-time favorite!

Lightning Force aka Thunder Force 4

That shooter made me take a 2nd look at shooters when i first played it. I had never experienced anything like that previously. The music, the bosses, the ships, it was all badass to me.

The thing that got me the most was the music though, sweet mother of ghandi i love it!! I think i'm gonna hook up the old genesis just so i can hear it!.

It's really hard to name my absolute all-time favourite, so I'm afraid I have to list a few by system:

Thunderforce IV, Raiden Trad (Genesis)

200 EC7 Lattice, Strikers 1945 II (PSX)

ASO II, Sonic Wings 2 (Neo)

Mars Matrix, Zero Gunner 2, Giga Wing 2 (DC)

At the mo I'm also heavily into Ikaruga, so let's see how it turns out. It's really a new kind of shooter with that black/white stuff, and man, does it look great.

Question for R-type fans:

i have super r-type for SNES
when you die, you start at the beginning of the level
are all r-type games this way?

i really hate it
i like games like blazing star where you can continue but lose the score

I have done some thinking on this and my favorite shooter of all time is Xevious made by Namco/Atari.

Incredibly fun game , that for some reason I never grew tired of. Also makes a great addition to any arcade nutts gameroom.
