How can you tell a fake MVS cart?

There is a MOTW MVS cart that I want to buy but I am unsure of it being genuine, it has an English label and that’s about all I know, apart from he bought it from someone called Aslan off ebay, who I think remember hearing that he made a lot of fake carts.
So my questions are:
How can you tell a fake cart (do you have to open it to be 100% sure)?
Are there any know faults with fake MOTW carts?
Does Aslan sell fake carts, or are they a good seller?
Are fake carts more likely to go wrong?

MOTW bootlegs don't have the endings. Now I've never dealt with this Aslan guy, but I've seen tons of posts on him before. He is notorious about selling bootlegs. Keep this post up and I'm sure others will respond.

Thanks JHendrix, you confirmed it for me that fakes are missing the endings, so I will make sure the guy selling it answers that for me.
Any other help is most welcome.

I may be wrong here, but since the MVS encryption has been broken bootlegs can now be burned from the original ROMS and not just the unencrypted pre-release version that was being used previously - which lacked endings. This means there is no way of knowing if the cart (in fact any cart) is a bootleg without getting a look inside the casing and checking the boards and chips. On my English MOTW cart the title on the spine of the cart is kind of holographic looking which may be some help, and the boards inside are clearly marked SNK which is visible through the clear casing. So thanks a lot to the "talanted" team who broke the encryption, now we all have to live in fear. I'm sure MS3, NITD, KOF 2000, KOF 2001 etc have probably been bootlegged by now. The only way to be sure is if it's a complete kit incl box and matching serial nos, I'm sure the pirates wouldn't bother faking that stuff (hopefully).

I think genuine carts have copyright dates and serial numbers printed on the label.

I try to avoid buying from aslan whenever possible (so many of his carts seem to have homemade labels, new labels slapped on top of old ones, etc. Makes me a little nervous). I can recomend buying MotW from bbu9715965@aol.com (ebay ID). He is a fast shipper, most (if not all) of his carts are genuine and I purhased my MotW from him without any problems (since we both live in the LA area, I payed with PayPal and the game arrived at my door THE NEXT DAY! :D ).

In general though, the three big eBay MVS dealers (Aslan, MDgames and BB) don't offer prestine carts. These things have been around and will more than likely show their age (cosmetically) once they get into your hands.

Thanks for everyones help (excluding ttooddddyy who did not help at all) it has made me decided to not bother with it untill I find one that I am 99% sure is correct, as if it came from Aslan seems more than likely it is a bootleg.

I've bought from the bbu9715965 and MDgames before, both are great sellers, very reliable.

Cheers for the link DJ B :)

I thought I had a bootleg earlier.. A while ago I bought a Pulstar MVS from MDgamesales which turned up with a "Pullstar" label.
I know Mike's on the level, and we both just put it down to a relabel of a Japanese cart.

Well, I got around to removing the newer label today, all I could make out of the old label was the katakana "ki" and some kanji - neither of which I was expecting.. all the chips check out though, no EPROMS and both boards are proper SNK..
Maybe the original cart shell got damaged and needed replacing or something similar? still worried me for a bit

Where can I get the layout for a MVS label from? I know someone was hosting the graphics, but can't remember who

thanks

Apollogies Retroplayer, agreed mine was a rather stupid post, but I do beleive that there arnt that many bootlegs around. However it would be a real bummer to end up with one. :)
Deal with someone reputable like Cosmicco in HK, you pay more for the freight, but the carts are the cheapest to start with, I swear by them. The service is second to none :)

This is what my Pulstar MVS looks like. It was bought from aslan11 awhile back, before I heard of the bootleg issue.

I haven't opened it up yet to see if it's genuine however.

You said that garou fake cart has no ending but do all the bootleg games have this kind of problem?
