I just received my second, back-up, Neo Geo system. The package deal which I bought included 1 US Neo Geo, 1 original joystick, 1 Metal Slug 3, and 1 new style joystick.
Up until now I had never played with the new style joystick before. I had always heard everyone bitch and complain about how horrid it was so I just assumed that they were correct. The way people have complained about it I figured it was worse than NGF stamps.
I have to admit though, I really like using it for certain games. I still prefer the old style stick for fighters but for shooters (Blazing Star) and side scrollers (Metal Slug, Magician Lord) the new style kicks ass.
I find for games that require tons of button mashing the new style works better. I can shoot faster without wreaking havoc upon my fingers in Metal Slug and Blazing Star.
This whole experience has just left me puzzled as to why everyone seems to hate the new style stick so much. I wouldn't use it for fighters but other than that it rules. What the hell are you people talking about?!
