I want to beat the guy who wrote this article into a pulp.

He keeps going on about how John was a maligned video-game genius/saint of the highest order and that Daikatana was built up so high that it is impossible to meet such demands!

It was beaten up by the media and the digital fan-boys who were simply jealous.

He seems to neglect the fact that Daikatana SUCKS! It's absolute trash. I can't even believe that's a debatable thing. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT THE GAME!! There's a MASSIVE glitch that one of your side kicks gets lost and it's IMPOSSIBLE to continue.

The game doesn't work! Period. End of discussion.

I mean, even graphically the game isn't as revolutionary as they inisist it is.

This dude makes him out to be a misunderstood genius.

I say the game is trash. Everything he's done before has now be tainted in my opinion by his "Trust me! I know how to do it." demeanor on the production of Daikatana.

And I bet he doesn't have the balls to make another game. EVEN if the game is the greatest thing ever, no one will trust him and will probably knock it too.

Moral of the story:

Don't be so god-damned egotistical.

This clown who wrote it goes on about how down-to earth and nice he is. Well... he basically spent millions of dollars to produce a turd of a videogame because he was so damn sure he was infallable.

Lesson learned.

Class dismissed.

aint romero doing monkeystone games now like, HyperSpace Delivery Boy(ugh) becuase, to paraphrase his explaination of it, pc games are too complex and are less about the game now. or in other words since he doesnt have the time to make both good graphics and gameplay, hes gonna focus on being shitty an a smaller scale.

personally i dont think of any pc game developers as genious..i mean even great classics like doom were really fun but hardly works of art in my eyes. and dont get me wrong i used to play quake a few hours a day and i have my own mod project for quake3 arena (shameless pimp chitan )but no pc game has truly inspired me like games like metal gear solid and last blade 2 (YES i do look at lastblade 2 as a masterpeice..the art and music combined just impresses the hell outa me i always imediatly pull out the drawing pad after finishing a last blade game)

so i think they are extreamly talented indeviduals and i have major respect for all developers..i just dont look at them as genious is all...

just my personal opinion.

Why even bother to make a game?

Have you seen some of these new PocketPC games?

They have Quake2 on PocketPC for fucks sake.

Check out my post on the new MVS hardware for some background on good graphics.

I mean, I'm a fan of GBA graphics, and that game may look cool on the GBA...but...come on people. Let's liven things up a tad.

sure ppc can do ports, but an original game is always better then a port. Right now all we are seeing are ports or puzzle games(and rocket elite ) but god damn wheres a rts like star craft? huh? Atleast someone culd port starcraft. Quake II wasnt even that good, more like Quake with little less choppy animation.

PPC isn't to Computers what GBA is to Consoles. Most software is fan made and PPC is getting as much attention as Cybiko.

(I use my iPaq for emulators anyway so this doesnt really bother me)

When's somebody gonna write something like this on Derek Smart, Ph.D. and the only one who understands the menace that are Coke machines?

The guy made a game with a UI that only a Ph.D. could make and only a Ph.D. could comprehend, he said prior to BC3000's release that it was "all done except for the manual," and when it was released (after 8 years development), it had so many bugs that it was practically unplayable. Also, he allegedly attacked a Coke machine at Take 2 Interactive when they were going to release BC3000AD in its premature state.

I'm waiting for the article on him.

That said, I can see why this guy would have reservations on effigying John Romero--they're childhood buddies, and they worked in the same company. I'd have a hard time blasting a guy who was an old friend and who gave me a job.

John Romero began to think of himself as a celebrity that could do no wrong. Then he got a dose of reality when people tried his much delayed "masterpiece" of DaiKatana and discovered what a rancid piece of garbage it was. It went from MSRP to Bargain Bin in record time.

just a little review on it before i go to bed tonight.
Graphics-suprisingly good and much better then most GBA games. although this could just be the case of back lighting, the animation (for everthing except the human sprites it seems) is of fairly good quality.

Sound- All mp3s which give it a red book quality sound, but isnt too catchy and shows romero isnt god of 2d, luckly i wasnt expecting that much.

Gameplay-Ive only played uzzle mode and there are 2 modes to play. It has sort of a zelda is rpg feel to it and luckly the puzzles are fun, im afraid to play the action mode though as ipaqs controles make me wanna shoot bill gates.

overall its a farely good game relative to the other stuff out there, if it had a nicer playing quake or a rts then there would be no real reason to have this clgging up precous nes rom space, as i cant get nearly enough of it. Itd be nice if romero let himself drop into obscurity now and so with monkeystone, but he probably wont. Just be glad this isnt nearly as hyped as anything else cause i dnt want to hear about it.

Oh totally. I'd rather play a new game than a port and Quake2 wouldn't be my #1 pick of a port I would play. I just mentioned that one to illustrate that the PPC hardware has the cohones to pull off some good games.

Startcraft or even Warcraft would be awesome.
But as long as we're wishing, I'm wishing for FalloutPocket .

I hate my Cybiko. Hate it. I haven't enjoyed one single game and I've never encountered another person in real life who has had one.

They have a new and improved Cybiko coming out that is, apparantly, geared more towards the teens and young adults....I could have sworn that's what the first one was . I hope GBA destroys the entire company.

*And DaMan, nah..that post was in response to DIY *
