There are just certain games that upon first playing them you sort of dismiss it, but after time you begin to fall in love.

A prime example of this would be ROTD, I hated this game when I first started to play, but after a few hours I couldn't stop.

Same thing happened to me with PSO when it first came out, I didn't think much of it at first but I soon realized how great of an experience it was. I became addicted like a heroin junky, playing day and night for hours at a time.

These are some games that I found to have this quality, maybe you all have had the same thing happen with different games.

Share your thoughts.

Mc Kids for the NES

My cousins had it and I never had the urge to play until my little cousin Alex " he was 4 at the time " asked me to help him get past a stage , after that I spent about a week playing it through to the end .

Yes sad I know very sad .

It has got to be Tekken. At first i didn't like the series and after trying out the game, i began to play it more.Tekken 3 got me into the series. Now i can pull off devastating combos and shit.I then bought Tekken 2 to see how it plays and i liked it.I also loved Tekken tag and Tekken 4.

Another game that grew on me was the Gran turismo series.I was a diehard daytona fan and i kind of hate the sim style of GT.After giving it a try, i am hooked.I began to like sim and arcade style racing games altogether.Gran turismo 3 was my most favourite.

Mortal Kombat....When it first came out I really hated it, but that was probably because I sucked at it and didn't know any moves. It took me a couple years to begin to like it and fighting games in general.

League Bowling.

When I first saw this game I scoffed at it, but later when a friend of mine showed me just how cool it was, it became one of my all time favorites.

Metal Slug 3 (Took about 2 years to really enjoy to it's fullest)
KoF '99 (Didn't fully appreciate at first)
KoF '00 (Sucked at first, when 01 came out, this seemed so much better).

well some games just take you awhile to get good at playing. TMNT for NES...ouch that was hard.

I hated Tekken at first as well, but now i am too damn good at it.

Cosmic Fantasy 2 on the TurboGrafx16+CD.
-it was a PAIN to start up. You started the actual game at a point where you had almost no HP, no useful weapons or objects, you had to struggle to get to the village and the inn in order to rest. Most of the time you'd be dead before you even get there.
-the controls were a pain in the butt. IE: the interface didn't really bother informing you who already had a move. It didn't skip the "used move" characters and always put the cursor on the first character. It's just annoying while you're trying to go through a battle quickly.
-The storyline was very slow moving. Eventually it picks up and becomes great. :)

Shenmue here to; never really interested me at first, the pace was too slow. When Shenmue II was released i woundered what all the fuss was about, and began Shenmue again, and it's now one of favourite games.

Air Force Delta Storm for the XBOX.

I got this for Christmas (now one of the rarer XBOX titles, no less!) and HATED it! The graphics were fine, but the control was too dumbed down which made it very difficult to avoid enemy missiles.

Soon thereafter I read the manual and found that there was an advanced control option which gave you lateral motion by using the triggers on the controller. After practicing this for a few days, I finally got the hang of the game and made some real progress! Now I love the game!

Shenmue and Shenmue II were like that for me. Though even now when I play I sit there wondering why I'm playing it, that doesn't stop me for sitting there for hours though.

NiGHTS into Dreams, actually. It's hard at first, but then, once you get used to it, it's very good.

By any chance, have you managed to finish the game?

I'm close...but I haven't played it in ages. Maybe I'll pop it in the XBOX tonight and see if I still have the skills!

This is a true "gamer's" game. You often have to replay areas over and over to get a shot at that on stage you're having trouble with (the canyon gave me the most problems)...get shot down or take too much damage in the sub-stages and you may as well go back to the shop and start again. Punishing, but fair!
