Ok I know some of you guys here are IT professionalls. Dumb question time !

Does anyone know of a site that would be able to show me how to network my win98 machine to my win XP machine through my Printer port ?

I have been fooling with it for a while and I cant get it to go.
I really dont need the speed of a NIC card since all I really want to do is to let my 98 machine hop on the net via my DSL to download new Seti@Home packets instead of using a dial up modem.

I figured since the printer port is there I might as well give it a try , instead of buying a router or picking up a NIC since I wont really be using this machine for anything else.

Thanks guys !

Any help will be apprectated.

instead of connecting via parallel port, consider getting a cross-over serial cable to connect com ports on each box. fairly easy to set up and inexpensive too.

Honestly I would get nics, though you may not use them now, you may have use for them in the future. Nics are very cheap, around $8-10 if you shop right. A router isn't much either, I would get the nics and router, the work arounds are nothing but frustrating.

sorry man, I would recommend 10mbit NIC's for this one, they are so cheap and you have the full advantages of TCP/IP for next to nothing more.

Yeah I kind of figured I would have to go with a NIC on this , I couldnt find much on Printer Port networking. But as usual I had to at least try the hard road first.

This has turned into way too much work and frustrating sums it up nicely.

Thanks for the replys guys.
