WTF? Need for Speed: HS for PS2 rated MUCH HIGHER than XB/GC versions?!?

EA is really f'ing up lately. It appears that Need for Speed: High Stakes for PS2 is a really nice game (rates 8.5 and looks and runs great), whereas the XBox and GC versions are considerably WORSE than the PS2 one (both rate 7.2)!! WTF is going on there? Looks like EA has some crappy dev teams that don't know what they're doing, and it shows in the ports that are coming out lately . . . IDIOTS!!

Funny, I was thinking about waiting till I got an X-Box to pick this game up. Well, looks like I'll be sticking with the PS2...

There is a reason for it Chimp.

The PS2 version of the game was developed by Black Box whom developed the game from the ground up but as a last minute measure to make sure all the games would be released on time, EA Canada was order to develop the Xbox and GC version separatly from the PS2 version. The development was so rushed the released both the Xbox and GC version unfinished. In the end you have to incomplete ported games that actually run worse than the PS2 counter part.

This is the kind of game that, to me, just feels like a PS2 game anyways.

That's weird, because I really only own the Xbox for Halo and all the FUN AS FUCK [not superior] racing games, like Rallisport, MotoGp, Project Gotham, ETC ETC ETC.

It would be a cool game if it had not been played to death on the PC for the last 6 or 7 years.

Im sure it will be somewhat different though ?

Although knowing EA it will be the same game it was on the PC.

I'm a bit surprised and disgusted, but I've known about this little doosey for a few weeks. Pretty dumb, but I guess another good reason to keep your PS2. ;)

That's because EA are the shit of the gaming industry. They put out so much fucking crap, and still sell so many copies , it sucks. Look at that Sims crap, can you get 10 add-on packs for that now? and the price hasn't dropped a buck since it came out. Same with that Agent Under Fire crap, and MOH:Frontline (soon to be sloppily ported). EA don't even like Microsoft because MS wouldn't allow them to run their own servers for their shitty sports games, so they can't GOUGE more money out of mr.joe punter. That's why none of their games for Xbox support the Live! service, and Battlefield 1942 was pulled, and the MOH game was changed into a PS2 Port. EA are just money-grabbing assmunchers; they turn their back on Sega who really helped them take off with the genesis , 'Desert Strike' and 'Road Rash'.

They also have a rep. for ruining every good license they get their hands on. Ever played those Simpsons games? ERG! same with 007AOF, Rare did a great job with the bond license, EA shit on it.

I have really not liked the NFS series since the 1st one, done with EA and Road & Track.

NFS 2 sucked.... 3 was decent at best. Hot pursuit... ok...

You know what happened with NFS: HP2, they created it for the Ps2.... then ported it to the Cube and Xbox.... and spent little time on it. How else can you explain the Ps2 version hitting a 9.1, The GCN 7.3, and the Xbox 7.1. Xbox Suffered the worst.

I was pissed off by this too.... I hear you.

That's because the game (in particular, the graphics) is being rated based on what is expected on each system, and more is expected out of the XBox and GC versions.

and the framerate is worse on the cube/xbox. Supposively below 30 fps.

The textures in the Xbox version were rated the worst...

and supposively, there are less modes in the GC/Xbox version..

I agree with you 100%, "money grubbing assmunchers" describes EA perfectly. They stabbed Sega in the back by refusing to develope games for the DC, and yes after they built their company on the great Genesis EA games. I've always liked the Need for Speed Series, and I really expected a lot from the XBox version, but this is really disgusting. I guess I'll just get the PS2 one and skip the XBox version, really disappointing. I feel like boycotting every game by this lame, arrogant company . . . but there are a FEW games like this one that I really want to get.

Really stupid that they bungled this so badly, and it serves them right if both the XBox and GC versions sell like shit . . . they don't deserve a freaking penny for the shoddy, half-assed job they did on those versions!

Actually, no thats not true. If you read the reviews at Gamespot, they mention that the XBox and GC versions are not really even ports in some respects, beyond the poorly ported graphics (WORSE than the PS2 versions). Whatever morons "ported" those versions, actually CHANGED the gameplay to a different style, and in so doing, ruined the game. Beyond which, they bungled the graphics and framerates of these two other versions.

Really EA deserves to lose big $$ over these lame ports. There's no excuse for it at ALL.

Solid snake was right.
Its true that the PS2 version is the best version for that reason stated. And NFS: hot pursuit 2 is a very cool arcade game right up there with burnout 2!

I played the game last night though at a friends house and it brought me back to the wonderful days of Need For Speed 1 on the 3DO. I really like this game, I played the PS2 version and was really impressed at the zero jaggies and really smooth gameplay... If I had a PS2, I would own this game :)

After being disappointed with NFS: Porsche Challenge, I think this game is really great. The graphics aren't as good as I'd hoped for after playing GT3 but this is still an awesome game for PS2. :D

Um there is ONE reason I can explain this.

Developed for PS2, they did QUICK ports to XBOX and GC and didn't rework the code as much as they should have.

Remember the PS2 requires special programming to get good performance, special ways to do algorithms, assembly level stuff, everything. IF they didn't re-work the code very much, except take the high level C work and just recompile for the XBOX/GC then to get it out the door they'd tone down the models quickly (making it even shittier than normal).

Ahh well Market dominance is a bitch.

Still XBox is getting Steel Batalion, CvS2, MvC2, and a few others, all with online play. What more do you need?

Peace

You guys should give Burnout 2: Point of impact a try as well. That game is very awesome and it supports progressive scan where NFS: hot pursuit 2 failed.
Its debatable as to which game has better graphics.
NFS: hot pursuit 2 has better looking car models and some well designed tracks which extend very far whereas Burnout 2 has some ultra cool looking tracks filled with detail and they are big as well.

Regardless of the fuck up with the GC and X-Box version, just looking at the PS2 version it is a great game. I think it was sorely needed as a breather from all the race sims as of late. I've been waiting for the game since NFS: High Stakes came out and was not disappointing. I tend to just ignore Porsche Unleashed and make like it never existed. :) That had the potential to be really good, but they didn't do a good job. Too many graphical issues and what not. A shame.

Well, that sucks!

Oh, well. I never liked that series, anyway, apart from the original NFS on 3DO. :)

Stay away from the Xbox one. The PS2 version runs at 60fps, the Xbox one doesn't even run a steady 30 I'm told, it drops to about 15 fps.

EA is lazy as hell, unless they are trying to make people beleive the PS2 is more powerful than Xbox by bad ports, but I don't know whows gonna buy that one.

I was looking forward to this game too, the PS2 footage on G4 looked awesome.

I've been more or less boycotting them for a while now. The sad thing is, I can set my watch to all the zombie sheep who come into my store every year by the droves to scoop up the latest Madden, Live, etc.

EA always did strike me as a poser company, looking to buddy up with whichever hardware company could garner them the most spotlight and attention. I'm not sure on my terms but is that a frontrunner? :p

Their games are decent at best and they wouldn't be half the company they are now if they didn't buy up the decent studios like Maxis, Bullfrog, and others. I saw a co-worker playing the new NFS at work and it's nice on PS2, just that driving games aren't really my thing. The last driving game I really got into was Choro Q :D .
