Hey everyone, It's time for a new guitar. I have my Firebird which im using for jazz/blues and I'm loving it. I have been using a Squire Telecaster for a long time and it has hit the dust. The Squire necks go to hell quickly. I'm thinking of purchasing a Fender Strat or Tele. What models are good (beside the Americans and Standards) for playing many styles of music. I plan to be playing metal (which I have done on a Tele and it works), Jazz, Blues, and Rock in general. I also need something that I can settle in with, because this is it for a while. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

THUNDERCATS!!!! HOOOOOOO!!

erm... welll.. I am a guitar player :D

for Metal... Check out Ibanez, B.C. Rich, Jackson (Kick in the teeth for metal! But you need to get the pro models that run $1200+), Schechter, and a couple others.

Don't get fender for metal.... or any other normal blues guitar.... although the Les Paul does to wonders with the right pickups!

I know Alex Scholnick (spelling) would disagree with me, but unless you have a contract with a killer pickup manufacturer... don't do it.

Hmmm.. Sounds like you're a strat man.. You may want to go the way of an Ibanez Jem model. They're great for just about any type of music from rock to metal to jazz to blues to anything you can think of. You should really give them a try.

Ibanez is a good buy, usually.

I have a Fernandez (Fernandeath) strat copy. The price is usually really good for Fernandez, and they're typically good guitars - way better than your old Squire.

I also have a Ric 330. And that is pretty much what I play on.

If you want a guitar that is good for many different styles, imo an Epiphone would be the way to go. Like, an Epiphone Dot which only runs about $350.

When it comes to guitars I'm a Gibson Man. My Main guitars are a Gibson Gothic Explorer, Epiphone Gothic Flying V, Kramer Imperial Custom and my heavily modified Squire Strat.

Out of all of them the Flying V has the best crunch, so its the all purpose Metal Guitar. The Explorer has a good crunch but its best for rhythm. I keep the Squire around for leads (gotta have single coils for solos!) and I just got the Kramer so I'm still breaking that one in.

Be a man, get a Gibson!! :D

I'm a Jackson Man!

thats all I really have. Besides a JB PLayer and a Dauphin Classic... and that ESP Explorer :)

But... I won't play anything but the Jackson pro models now... I cannot go back :( After playing on those... everything else just feels.... not good.

Anyway.... Crunch is also attained by the height of your strings to the Pick-up, and the style/brand/coil winding that is used.

IT can be achieved on any guitar... with the right hardware.

I totally agree that you can achieve a good crunch on any given guitar with the right pickups/hardware, but there are some distinct tones that can only be achieved with certain guitars. That fat, chunky Gibson crunch only comes from a Gibson. Its the same thing with the high end Jackson attack that only comes from a Jackson.

Gibson owns you and you know it!! :D

As far as I know, the Strat is a versatile guitar. You can prtty much play anything with such a guitar, even metal music.

A Strat is okay, it's easy to play, affordable (too bad the japanese factories closed, they were making models whose quality was far better than american models) and looks great.

Also, check out Phenix or Epiphone if you're looking for cheap and reliable guitars. The kind of instrument you're going to smash after two gigs!
