I keep a minty tuna sandwich I have saved from the 80's in a zip-lock bag.

I used to keep all my Atari 2600 carts in ziploc bags...big mistake. The labels all got that dreaded "acti-plaque" label mottling (where the adhesive begins to show and the label begins to unstick slightly and sometimes bubbles form). I guess all those hot summers they spent in storage took their toll.

While most Atari carts, especially Activision games which actiplaque is named after since they were so prone to it, do develop the lable mottling on their own naturally (as do the labels on old floppy disks), it seemed that the ziploc bags made the problem worse, and in most cases, accelerated the condition. Most ziploc bags have a slightly greasy/oily feeling, so I believe that the small bit of moisture or oil that was on the bags is to blame. Atari carts used a cheap type of label stock and newer games like NES, Genesis and Neo games seem to have a glossier label that resists this kind of damage.

I see some people storing their Neo carts and cases in ziploc bags and I kind of wonder the same thing...what will happen to the cart's label? Probably nothing, but I still wonder. The cases I wouldn't be too concerned about (except for my precious carton boxed games) unless the insert is not fully covered by the case's plastic.

Sometimes....
If I get a game that is super minty i'll put them in one. Tho annoying when I want to grab it and play. I really only do this with LE version of games that have nice boxes. Only a few AES carts since I only have a couple that are minty.

Actually I use serran wrap (wrong spelling i'm sure) to protect certain games from the elements.

damn..if you really want to keep a box super mint, just take the damn cart out and stick the box up the loft or something, then fetch it down in 25 years time to show your kids, who won't care.

See, that's where I'm not sure. SNES and gameboy game boxes contain recycled material and I don't know how well something like that would hold up stored in a ziploc bag.

I won't store my Neo carton boxed games in a ziploc bag simply because I am not 100% sure if there will be some kind of reaction to the coating on the plastic bag over the course of several years. It will probably be safe, but until I see evidence that confirms this, I won't store any of my games in ziploc bags. You may just want to get a nice box and keep your valuable boxes/etc covered. That's what I do with my DC games and they seem fine.

I wouldn't store them in plastic bags; unless the bage are made of mylar they can cause more harm than good. Even mylar bags are supposed to be replaced every few years. Honestly, I don't see the point; most cartridges should outlast all of us.

Not only do I keep my games in Ziplocs, I also put vacuum all the air out, fill the bag with nitrogen, and put the bag in the freezer ( which is exactly at 277.46 degrees Kelvin )...

j/k ;)

Games for the Atari, SNES, Genesis and the like don't need to be in plastic bags, they are worth nothing and they are ugly.

Neo-Geo carts that is what I am talking about they need to be off dust! and they are beatiful. <img src="graemlins/glee.gif" border="0" alt="[Glee]" />

I only store my instructions in ziploc bags if I have to.
Sometimes I cut the end of the zipper to make it look like a Neo Geo AES baggie.

I put my loose Atari 2600 carts in these thin, clear bags that my wife gets at the Craft store,She uses them to cover homemade chocolate loly pops. They fit nice and tight on the carts.
Other carts I use all kinds of tight fitting bags.
