remember that really bad xbox art that was posted a few months back?

maybe it was the official art after all. here is a pic of the strategy guide cover :

(thx to shenmuedojo.com)

looks like Ryo's face has been redrew, and there is another pic of him fighting Don-Niu in the bottom left. Xiuying (the wench on the right) still looks crap and Ren is wearing Bao's hat.

Even the mock-up boxes that are on display at my area Gamestop and EB stores have different box art than what is shown on this strategy guide.

It really won't matter much to me. It's the content on the discs that I'm after! It's been a long wait for U.S. Shenmue fans who decided to wait rather than spoil the experience with the import DC version! It will be worth it! I already have mine on pre-order and will pick it up on the 10/30 release date and will promptly take the next day off from work!

It could turn up that art could be on the final cover but the box that we saw a few months back was a fake regardless.
The reason why Ryo's face looks normal is that when the person was sizing it to fit the standard DVD box he squeezed it horizontally so everything looked skinny.

I really dont understand this, how would it spoil the experience playing it on DC? Do you have a Dreamcast? Did you have one when Shenmue 2 was released? Shenmue 2 was thoroughly superb on DC, and you could have been playing it a year ago. For me, the original Japanese voice acting with subtitles is preferable to the english speech on the Xbox, everything was just more realistic because of it. What if the Xbox version turns out to be crap? What if you'd been hit by a bus 6 months ago?

I do own a DC (2 in fact) and I had it since launch day ( 9/9/99 ). My least favorite system of all time, with the exception of Shenmue 1 and the NFL 2K series of games.

I already explained my reasons for not going with the Shenmue II import in a previous thread. But the long and short of it is:

1. The game will be far superior on XBOX.
2. Less SLOWDOWN
3. Should be on ONE DVD as opposed to 4 GDRoms
4. Saving games will be fast and simple, thanks to the XBOX's capacious Hard Drive and no need to worry about sacrificing 90% of your VMU space.
5. The XBOX version is custom tailored for the US gaming market.
6. Bonus DVD included with the XBOX version.
7. Much less expensive to play the XBOX version...on the DC I would have needed a $20 boot disc on top of the $60 it cost for the DC version at Gamestop.
8. Improved graphics and more important..LESS DISC ACCESS! The grinding DC drive got annoying in Shenmue 1...I could only imagine how bad it would be in 2!
9. Disappointment with how Sega treated the US Dreamcast Shenmue fans.
10.The list goes on and on.

Sure, there were some who simply couldn't wait and had to buy the import, good for them. I myself heard the game was coming to XBOX about the same time the US version was cancelled. I was getting an XBOX anyway (got it onlaunch day Nov 15!!) and heard that it was going to be released, so what sense would it make to buy the DC version anyway? It's not like you're really helping Sega by paying the inflated prices for an import copy. And the DC was said to have been pushed to the absolute limits with this game.

Just my thoughts. Those who couldn't wait to play the game on XBOX and went with the DC version truly got a substandard version of the game.

Hmmm....NeoGoat and Rain...you're both from the UK area and Sega did release the game for your country, so perhaps that is why you speak so highly of the game.

Remember that we U.S. gamers had a sour taste in our mouth from when Sega abrupty cancelled the game for release on our shores.

When all is said and done, I'll still have my Shenmue II, albeit on a different more powerful platform!!

"My least favorite system of all time"

You're the first DC owner I've heard say that.

1. That's pure speculation
2. Had no real impact on the game.
3. Mmmmm, 4 GDRoms, nice.

4. If there's a game worth sacrificing a VMU for, this is it.
5. Oh dear ....
6. OK, you've got me there
7. You had to buy an Xbox! Utopia disc is free.
8. Didn't even notice it.
9. Then why are you buying the version that was the cause of you not getting an official release.
10. No it doesn't

I don't want to piss on your chips with launch day appraching, but I dont understand your logic. I mean if it turns out to be "far superior" I'll buy an xbox and a copy myself. But it'll only be a conversion of the original.

I was going to buy an XBOX anyway for HALO and PGR on launch day. The Shenmue II annoucement was simply a bonus and showed that MICROSOFT loves us.

What more in the way of logic do you need? I'll have an official Microsoft/Sega release for $49.99 with a free 90 minute DVD. I don't have to go through the gray market route to play the game and spend more $$$ than necessary to play it on my DC. $60 plus $20 for boot disc is not worth spending for a DC game, especially when you already know that an official US version is on it's way!

And how could you NOT notice the disc access???? Even in Shemue1 it was bad. You notice it entering new towns and especially when entering buildings! Plus, the saves took 10-15 seconds, which is abnormally long. Maybe you're just more of a patient gamer than I am, but if it was noticeable in part 1, it would certainly be noticed in part 2.

no version of Shenmue II deserves a bashing in any way, shape or form. To me, the Dreamcast original was a *perfect* game in every aspect; an enhanced xbox version is just a great bonus that i will also pick up.

i also think the DC version is wonderfully packaged, the 4-disc boxset has the most memorable packaging of any domestic Dreamcast game.

no experience of the game is spoilt at all on the Dreamcast version, unless you have a dislike for subtitles and small load times. And if you do, that's your opinion and your very welcome to it. But trust me, it's impossible to 'spoil' this game, on any format.
