Which is it? do you prefer carts or discs? (i say "disc" and not CD cause of recent releases on DVD and whatnot. bah.)

Specify, and tell us why!

for me it's cart. Why? i just always thought it was cooler to have a little cart to hold in your hand than a fairly unwieldy CD/DVD.

yet, i love CD and DVD games too, and CD quality music is untouchable.

but carts are just generally cooler.

Discs, carts are just out dated. It's like comparing bulky VHS tapes, to a DVD, I'd much rather have a DVD anyday.

Vintage systems that use carts are fine, but it would be outdated to release a non handheld that used carts.

MVS cart.

It's the arcade version and the load time is 100% shorter than the NeoCD.

Anyway, for the current systems I prefer discs. PS2/Dreamcast games would be UNAFFORDABLE if they were on cart.

cart.
I love cart's because you can't scratch them.
And they have no load time.
I wish there was some next gen cart system.

but cd/dvd music is untouchable

still I prefer cart

I like carts because there is no load time... However I noticed that the load times on gamecube are very short. But still, carts are cool

carts

why?

because the boxes look cooler.

it has nothing to do with load times or music or cost or storage

but ill be damned if anyone says that the snot green xbox dvd cases look better than snap lock cases

I say carts because when there's less space, the designers have to be careful how they use it. They can't afford to squander the space on pointless CG or repetitive summon sequences--they actually have to *gasp* devote the space to the game O_O

Also, if you take sandpaper to a cart, you get a smooth cart. If you take sandpaper to a CD, you get a $50 coaster.

Cart

Costs more, yes..

-BUT-

No loads
Lasts longer
Looks better
Nice Boxes/art
Generally hold their value longer than discs (due to production costs - more discs are made cuz they are cheaper to produce)
Look how long it took for NES/SNES games to go down in price..

I thought I was going to say CDs, becuase it provides a huge proliferation of games, but I realized most of them were shitty.

With the N64, specifically Resident Evil 2 and Conkers Bad Fur Day, I realized well done carts would be my preference over 200 CD games. Conkers Bad Fur Day has MP3s for speech. Don't believe me? Look in the opening tech credits. Resident Evil 2 proved the CG cutscenes were possible on a cart, without taking the price to the atmosphere.

Carts definetely. They look like small dictionnaries. And there's no loding time. Immediate fun, immediate gameplay. CDs suck.

once i get my situation in order i am going for all carts except for the nec pc-fx. all this shit is expensive for me now however.

note that i also plan to only own japanese versions. that means neo-geo japanese, mega drive, superfamicon, pc engine duo...

i just love all that crazy kanji. it makes me feel all warm inside

Carts of course, especially when it comes to Neo Geo games

+arcade exact (no missing animation, etc.)
+no load time
+700 grams worth of cart in your palm makes you happy in a strange, undescribable way

No load times on Carts? ha ha ha ha. right.

Think back to your Genesis games, remember when you turn it on and the screen turns white and says "Sega!"? What do you think it's doing right then ?

Carts just have very insignificant load times, but trust me they're there.

Yeah, there are like no load times on the carts, but eventually I think load times on disc games will be insignificant too. It's just a question of drive speed, as all you Neo•CD users will agree with that. And also if the system is fast enough you should be able to avoid loads.

GameCube is a really good example. The combination of all the components, CPU, FSB, RAM and Drive almost eliminate load times.

In fact, Eternal Darkness was designed with artificial load times, because the GameCube loaded so fast it was disorientating! like if you went through a door and the room on the other side was similar and the camera angle had changed, people though that their character had just spinned around.

oh...

disc.

Carts are too expensive to make, as my nostalgic loyalty I have for them, that really is a big issue.

I would much rather have a shelf full of carts (Neo-Geo of course) than discs.

There's nothing like holding a big beefy SNK cart in your hands. For Neo, hands down, it's the carts. They look cool, it is THE ARCADE, and you can use them to build a house if necessary! Really, I don't have a preference for other home systems. To me, it's just a container for some great art!
