Has this movie been released in Japan yet? Are there subtitled versions available anywhere? I remember when the movie was in production but have lost track of it since then.

This was released in japanese theaters back in December. The DVD set came out in August, but at 100 dollar price tag. The VHS is in japan, bootleg/subbed copies of the VHS are currently circulating through ebay. just put in GMK VHS, and look at how much some of these idiots are paying for a boot...

im waiting for the HK DVD, it'll be around 10-15 dollars and have subtitles...

Great Diago. Thanks for the info. Any idea when that HK DVD is gonna be available? Let me know. I surely don't want to spend 100 bucks on the movie.

:D

Oh so you've seen it huh? How does it compare to the last few recent Godzilla flicks (2000, X Megaguiris) or the Gamera movies? I know the guy who did the Gamera movies directed GMK, so my expectations are really high.

I've kinda fallen out of scene with Godzilla, but I definitely will have to catch GMK. I haven't even seen Megagiras (sp?) yet.

But Godzilla is just one of those special creations... and a fun past time hobby that no matter how distant I might get, somehow I always come back.

It's like video games and wrestling... ;)

I totally agree. I have been out of Godzilla awhile now as well. The last one I saw was Godzilla 2000. SO I have some catching up to do. I was thrilled when they released Godzilla vs. the Destroyah on DVD and hopefully they can start releasing some of his newer movies after Godzilla 2K.

Yeah I hope the newer movies get US releases on DVD eventually. Godzilla 2000 was so sweet, and it got me totally back into the Kaiju scene. I hadn't been into monster movies since I was a little kid, but I caught Godzilla 2000 on Stars one night and have been hooked ever since.

I have Godzilla X Megaguiris on tape with subtitles, but I'd love a nice DVD version of it. Same with the Gamera movies.

I still want to see the sequels for Gamera to come out! They released the first one here back in 95 or 96 I believe. It was really a great monster movie. Plus once I saw those birds a cord struck. I have seen all of the older Godzilla movies as a kid but I always remembered a bird that wasn't Rodan and was always trying to remember what Godzilla movie they were in. I was totally off as they were from Gamera.

ADV Films has the rights to publish all 3 of the "new" Gamera movies in the US. They brought over Guardian of the Universe a while ago, like you mentioned. Howvere it's only available on VHS. :(

I emailed them recently, maybe a month ago, on wheather or not they still own the rights and if they are going to be released anytime soon. They replied saying that, yes, they do still own the rights to publish th emovies, but it is not in their immediate plans to do so. Sigh... hurry up will ya ADV?

Ducky, they have been saying that since like 2000. I used to emailed them in 2000 about it and they said, "Be patient, it's coming."

2 years later it's still not here.

Obviously to them, it's not too big a priority.

BTW, anyone remember that super identical Gamera monster in the 3DO/PSX/Saturn game, GEX?

Also, there were a couple Godzilla-inspired creatures in video game history as well... (King of the Monsters, Revenge of Shinobi, etc.)

And can't forget how MANY times there was a Godzilla reference in that classic cartoon show, "The Simpsons."

Guardian of the Universe is probably the best monster movie I've ever seen (although I've yet to catch up on any of the recent Godzilla movies or the Gamera sequels - which are supposed to be an improvement upon the first).

Did you guys get the British dub in the US? In the UK it was released by Manga ent., so I'm guessing they dubbed it for a UK release...or am I wrong?

If you read Dragonball, muten roshi has a mini gamera that he sits on to fly around. It spins and makes him puke...very funny & cool
