...Which are two very different movies about people in higher eduction <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

"A Beautiful Mind" is based off of the life of Princeton mathmetician and Nobel Laureate John Nash, a brilliant mind who also suffers from serious mental issues (imagine Shine with math). Russell Crowe does a very good job and Ron Howard keeps the movie from becoming a heart-tugging love-fest. In fact, I found most of the movie appropriately disturbing. I don't think I'd call it best pic material, but I think Crowe did an excellent job (if only they had picked better make-up artists to do the aging of the characters over 40 years -Jennifer Connoly looks horrendous at the end of the movie). Its quiet, intellectual, and distrubing, so make your own decision as to whether its something you'd see.

now on to...

"How High." I saw these both as a double-feature (yes, I have broad tastes). What can I say? The movie gives you exactly what you expect: a goofy comedy about two unlikely college applicants (Redman and Method Man) who use pot to plunk themselves into Harvard and weed their way (sorry, couldn't help it). The movie had a few more genuinely funny moments than I was expecting. It was far better than most movies staring rappers (granted, not a tough feat). You have to give them credit for not working rap into their story (other than a cameo by Cypress Hill as Cypress Hill). I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at the desecration of an American President (something I'll let you discover if you choose to see it). Not quite the same movie as "Legally Blonde," but I liked it anyway.

So there you have it, two movies about higher education that may be worth catching. I had fun with both.

(anyone else see either of these?)

Wasn't John Nash bisexual in real life. That would have been an interesting stretch for Mr. Gladiator to pull off.

Yeah, some people in GLAAD were giving the moviemakers flak for it, but I this movie seems to be more concerned with his battle with schizophrenia.
