PLAY magazine - XBOX bias

I've been reading the last few issues of PLAY magazine and found that they are getting better so a subscription might be in order.

What I've also noticed is how this mag seems to stand up for the XBOX more so than other mags. It's really been evident in the last two issues, with Mr. Mullet even going so far as saying "Can I say enough about bump-mapping, etc". Don't get me wrong...the XBOX is my system of choice amongst the Next Gen consoles and I too defend the XBOX when I see the need. But, it's weird. Seems to me that Gamepro favors the GC, EGM favors the PS2 <shudder>, and PLAY favors the XBOX...almost like each mag needs to favor one particular system in general. Granted, they still review other console titles and do review the games as appropriate, but in the editorials and such is where the bias is most evident.

Anyway, I like the XBOX and its good to see that some mags like PLAY do appreciate this surprising newcomer to the console wars.

EGM favors XBOX, too. They chose it as the system of choice back when they had that feature of "What's the system to buy" when the XBOX came out. PLAY looks like the Offical XBOX Magazine to me, but I still like the magazine a lot. I'm not an XBOX fan, but I can respect their opinions.

This is nothing new. Most editors will have a bias for one system just like they have bias against games and companies.

I've never seen this 'Play' magazine. Maybe it isn't out in Canada. I'll have to look for it.

You can usually find it at any game/software store. It's not widely distributed yet and still pretty new. Dave Halverson (of Gamefan and Gamer's Republic fame) is at the helm once again with his 3rd mag.

The website is surprisingly not up yet!

Play magazine just flat out sucks balls. They don't have a xbox bias, they just take huge bribes. Christ, they gave Circus Maximus and State of Emergency top-notch reviews and there is no way that you could find those fetid piles of crap to be top-tier. Just because the magazine has nice glossy pages and an anime section doesn't mean it's worth the paper it's printed on.

EGM does not really favours the PS2.They seem to like all systems including the DC.The only thing which i don't like about them is that their reviews of certain games can be very biased.Just look at the tekken 4 review.About 75% of what they said about it is wrong and misleading.Just ask any Tekken fan and they will tell you.

i still think its worth getting.
i never thought of it as bribes.
but you know halverson is sucking on it big time.
i m sure hes trying to procure friends again
in the industry and connections.
but i could be wrong.
i d hate to see another magazine bite the dust.
egm is doing well imo though.
..

i wont argue much on the xbox bias though.

speaking of bias, this reminds me.

in EGM, they reviewed KOF99 for both DC and PS, i don't remeber what the ratin on either of them was, but one of the editors said all in all the PS version was better. HOW!!!!! if that isn't bias i don't know what is. that review made me so mad.
