I say salvage all your important files on to a CD and get your PC fixed by someone who fixes PCs.

Ya shouldnt mess with a hard drive tooth like that cus it could cause a static spark and disrupt the saved info ya have.

thanx, but I can't even get the hard drive to work so I can't salvage the files <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> i don't think there is much I need on it, but I do want a working hard drive.

That is not something you would be able to fix. You might be able to bring it to professionals and have them try.

well, I figure that if I get ahold of a pin or something, maybe even just a small thin piece of metal, I might be able to do it (by soldering or something). As a last resort I'll bring it to a professional, but only if the repair job won't cost as much as a new hard drive (I don't think I have any important files on there. it was just an operating system boot up hard drive). thanx though.

how big is the hd? you might have to get a new one for the price you would pay to get it fixed....have you tried it with the pin missing, i know some of my floppies are missing a few pins but still work

expert only (or if u brave enough):
1. make sure u wear anti-static wrist band.

2. u need one of this (check at your local electronic store): http://www.molex.com/cgi-bin/bv/molex/part/parts.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1687845918.1009797306@@@@&BV_EngineID=eadccljgkjllbekgchecfclk.0&series=42376&measure=inch&engseries=null&stat

3. breaks one of da pins

4. open your HD, undo da solder from da broken pin out from board.

5. resolder new pin to da board.

cost? not more than $2.

It's a 20 gig hard drive that I was using for booting up an OS (40 gig would be my file storage).

Wolferaizer, thanx a lot, but that link you gave me takes me to the main page of the website (don't you hate it when they make their pages like that). So, what's the product that you said I need to get, because I'll do that. Thanx again.

on main page, type 42376 on "part no" & click enter.
picture will shown but that is a single row pins. u need a double rows pin connector.

they dont sell this as retail (site for reference only), but u may get it from electronic shop.
