The only thing is, if you want to use a disc more than once you have to buy RWs. And those cost like 30 bucks a piece.

Well, the unit is something like 1000$CDN to begin with. :)

Just wait a bit, prices will fall.

cheaper alternative:
if u got high power performance PC & intent to record TV broadcast, get a Vid capture card + DVD burner. ALOT cheaper & u can edit da stuff yerself.

Yeah I saw a comercial advertising for these... I think it was on Tech TV. Sounds cool but I heard these have been out for quite some time in Japan.

DVD recorders (Home theater units) have been available for a while now. But I would say wait at least another year and a half before they actually catch on. It will be awesome when you can buy a 10 pack of DVD/RW for $12.00. Till then let the prices fall.

I have a DVD burner for my pc. Its a little on the expensive side, but great.

There is no set format between the player manufacturers yet (DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, etc.), so steer clear. You don't want to be the guy stuck with the "BETA" player, as it were.
