What is your single favourite piece of Audio, Video or Gaming equipment? What is the one thing you would want to keep most?

Sure I've got my Apex DVD, my Pioneer LD, my JVC D-Series TV, MVS supergun and all that junk, but there is one thing I have that I can't say I'll ever get rid of.

And that is my Sony Minidisc portable player. The battery life is like 52 hours on a single AA, I've had it for close to a year now I think and I've changed the battery 3 or 4 times, and that's after listening to at least 1 hour every weekday. I mean, being able to grab the player without even thinking to bring extra batteries is great. And couple that with MDLP4 compression and you have 320 minutes of great quality music per disc (at least I think it's great quality, I'm sure some audiophiles wouldn't agree).

I also have a Sony Minidisc deck that aids in recording my stuff to MD, I especially like the fact that it even spaces out the tracks correctly. The perticular hardware I have is the portable MZ-R500, and the deck JE-440.

The deck is great for recording, but the portable player can also record probably just as well. MDs 4EVAR!

I would say its my 600 watt Kenwood 5.1 sound system.

It makes my games, music, and DVDs sound awesome! And I still cant get over the deep bass output I get from it. Plus I didn't have to murder my savings account to be able to afford it.

I really like my 32" JVC TV also. Its not high defenition, but I bought it to tide me over till HDTV prices go down in a couple years. (Want to get a 34" wide screen HDTV around summer 2005)

Right now it's my Gamecube. My TV is pretty nice, but it's just some off-brand from Wal-Mart. But it's 27" and has a flat screen.

My first CD player (it is a BIG magnavox unit that still works after all these years). I used it non-stop for several years before I replaced it with a sleeker/more fragile sony unit. Since then I have replaced that many times but my first one still works like a charm. All that for $80!

My 14" Samsung TV wink

Got if for getting into posh school when i was 11, we searched high & low for months to find a TVw with a scart/euro connector that wasn't a SONY (overpriced, out of budget at the time).

Out of town we stumbled across this beuty which is still rocking my console world 12 years on.

My Mustang SALLY LAYD D35 "Suck Machine"... Opps, oh you meant game related or something. wink

Ughh... then I'd hafta' say my Sakata SC-100 AV only Colour Montior. It's been my "devoted" visual projector of Mega Drive games and formerly Neo games that take the "bleed" out of color and make me do the Sonic Shuffle-Moonwalk Beat It... BAAAAAAAAAM I'm ze' King of Ze' World!

Aww man don't make me choose! I have a lot:
Radio Shack Shortwave Radio (DX-399) with a HUGE dipole antenna I built (it wraps around like half of the room it's in)
Realistic (Tandy) Jetstream VHF radio (and the antenna is missing the top little stopper, so when I plug the dipole into it I can hear a TON of stuff, mostly air traffic towers and jets)
Realistic (Tandy) Crystal Scanner (forget model) about all it's good for is the automated Weather report station, it has this funny robot voice. I need new crystals so I can hear local stuff
Sharp MD-MT15 minidisc player (so much music with so much battery life)
Nintendo Gameboy light (indiglo rocks!)
My arcade cab (obviously)

I love electronics!

i think, mine was one of the first ones.
it broke twice during the first eight weeks and that's why i spent the first 2 months with waiting, 'til that f*ckin thing was repaired ... again, 'cause they refused to replace it.
after that, i only used it as a recorder, when i needed some new mini discs for my car.
the accu lasts only 1 or 2 hours anyway ... annoyed

My 3DO FZ-1 , its one of the few consoles I still actually enjoy playing as much as I did when it was still new.

I really cant say that for any others at the moment.

This is sort of a weird question to answer since I know I will be forever buying new electronic gadgets and assorted audio/video crap for the rest of my life. So I think this really cant be answered correctly 1 time , I think its something that there really is no answer to since new things will come out that will have the same type of impact on you that another device had at one time.

Im still amazed everytime I watch a Laser Disc in AC-3 but when I watch a DVD its like yeah so what, even though its pretty amazing tech as well ,but at one time It did have that impact on me much like the Laser Disc had and still does { probably due to the huge Media it uses :D )

Yes! A unique perspective I DID NOT EXPECT to find in this thread.

Although, overall, my original 3DO ($500- reduced price) was more or less worth the money, via Star Control 2 and Wing Commander 2. But it's not even in my top ten of 'Best pieces of electronics'

But still, kudos mate, I love my 3Do and will never sell it.

Here's my top 5

1) Neo Geo AES- perfect, special and profound

2) HP CD Writer CD drive for my PC: Opened up the world of burning digital music.

3) Sega Nomad. Genesis, portable, bad battery life, but I can play it in bed.

4) VCR - my first was in 1986, which was WAY after everyone else on my block.

5) GBA SP- the perfect portable.
