Capcom vs SNK E0 for GC -- avoid it like the plague

I have NEVER been so disappointed in my life. Capcom vs. SNK has to be the worst game on GC, hands down! The joypad support is terrible,
and they feel somewhat awkward on a PS2 controller (also try playing a 2D fighter with an analog stick) and the specials are all controlled using the 'C' stick on the GC controller (I gave it a try, and hated it). I don't know, fellas -- the person(s) who approved this monstrosity of a fighting game knew nothing about fighters! I can tell EO was designed for newbies, because only a newbie would feel comfortable using an analog joystick. They should have called this game BS instead of EO; it would have made more sense.

Is there a decent stick out for the GC yet?I heard that you could switch to the normal controls which is like the DC/PS2 versions other than that simplified control scheme.

You dont always have to use the GC-Ism and can play it traditionaly. Bringing a game down because of the controller is also a pretty poor excuse if you ask me. It's already a known fact that the GCN controller was not meant for 2D fighters. Hell, I'd like to know of one other default controller that was good for Capcom fighters outside of the Saturn pad.

Turn off the EO mode. Go to store. Buy 2 ps arcade sticks. Buy 2 PS to GC controller adapters. End of story. Or just buy the DC import or PS2 version.

I already own 2 PS2 sticks and the adapter for Gamecube.

Who said I was using the GC's controllers? It's a complaint, not an excuse. I think the DC version had better control. :p

I think they need an enema, Diago. :D Sorry, but I had to say it.

The load times are non-existent between matches. Maybe I'm being too critical, but the controls feel 'floaty' to me. I tried the GC's controller, but it felt too awkward (the analog control is sloppy, and the d-pad doesn't respond too well). Oh well.... you win some, you lose some. :)

I bought this over the weekend myself, and yes, it is a real damn shame.

Because of the controller.

Nintendo cannot make a fucking controller for fighting games.

The nintendo controller sucks.

The wavebird is crap.

FUCK NINTENDO FOR IGNORING THE FIGHTING GAME COMMUNITY.

FUCK NINTENDO IN THE BUTT.

FUCK NINTENDO IN THE BUTT WITH A STOLEN DICK.

Just an assumption and also a common generalization, nothing more. I just have to beat a dead horse some every once in a while ;)

I already have the DC version too and dont really plan on getting the GCN version anyway, but I would have to agree that it would have better control anyway. I actualy dont mind the DC pad much for fighters. Not ideal in any way, but it's grown on me. Then again I've never really had any competition and am stuck fighting the computer all the time :(

It plays better with a PS2 stick / joypad, but even that doesn't feel quite right. I dunno'.... maybe I'm just turning into a judgmental geezer. ;)

I hear you on that one, brother! The DC's pad was better for 2D fighters (I wasn't expecting the GC controller to deliver a competent experience), but I was expecting something slightly better from my PS2 joystick.

Neolord is right, he's being a judgemental old geezer.

The game isn't perfect, but I rented it and I'm buying it.

Play it with EO turned off and any way other than the damned GC controller. Play it with dual shock pads, and it's not that bad.

Play it with a good PS2 stick, and it's perfect.

The graphics are on par with the DC version, load times aren't there, and it's in English.

That's more than the PS2 version offers, and enough for me to buy it (already owning the japanese DC version).

Just my 2 cents says that Neolord came in expecting too much and playing it all wrong. Capcom's designers couldn't make that GC controller work for a fighter, no one ever will.

Well, I bought it thinking, albeit wrongly, that I would be playing CvS2 from the comfort of my bed with my wireless wavebird...

Then I got home and remembered what a wavebird looks/feels like...

Sometimes I think you people are dense. Who said anything about the GC's controller (I already know its crap). Why do you think I'm using a PS2 joystick?

For the last time: who gives a flying toss about the GC's controller! I'm not playing EO with the GC controller, so stop beating a dead horse!

My issue is with the game and how it reacts to a PS2 controller; I already know that the GC controller wasn't designed for fighters.

umm... So you're expecting the control to work as good on the GC as it does on the PS2... Err...

Well anyhow, look at the art on the CvS2 EO disk.

Same as the art for the PSX version of CvS...

If you're going to use PS2 sticks, and PS2-->Gamecube adapters, why not just buy the game for PS2?

Was I expecting the GC version to be every bit as good as the DC/PS2 version? Hell yes! What's wrong with that I ask you? It's a 2D fighter for crying outloud; this game should be perfect on a Next Gen system, including the GC.

I was also expecting it to work better with a PS2 stick (i.e. better than it does; there seems to be a slight hesitation when you try to execute a move. This could be the game and not the controller; who knows).

I wanted to experience it on GC.

Added an additional comment:

I wanted to experience 2D gaming on the GC. The 2D graphics are arcade perfect (no complaints on this end), and the music is identical, but the control -- even with a PS2 controller / adapter -- feels too clumsy for my taste.

Neolord, I understood your point to begin with but other members were mentioning the GC controller as a problem.

The problem might be that you have a shitty converter between your PS2 joystick and the GC. Have you tried more than one? The ones I use are from Levelsix.com and they're great.

Other than that, I'm not sure what to tell you. The game is just about the same across platforms.

That's a possibilty, Josh. Maybe I should replace my current one? Hell, they're cheap enough!
