So who here's a LaserDisc collector? I used to have a great set but I had to get rid of it... but I just bought some discs and I'm looking at a pair of players I found cheap locally:

Pioneer LD-V2400
Pioneer CLD-V500

I think I'm going to go for the CLD-V500 just because it looks a heluva lot better than the LD-V2400...

I just think LaserDiscs rock.. I mean its the same reason a lot of people (inc me) like the neo.. THE THINGS ARE SO DAMN HUGE! Nothing beats a 12" double thick CD! Plus I mean you can get all the classics on nice transfers, AC-3 sound at a fraction of the cost of DVDs, and that's IF they're on DVD at all, which many things (Like the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies) are not.

Anyone agree with me?

I had a Pioneer LD Player back before DVD was available. I mainly bought anime for it, which was pricey even with my Sat Mat discount. After DVD came about I scrapped the LD collection, DVD is just superior in so many ways.

Sure, LD has a certain quality to it, but I think DVD just beats it on so many levels.

got 2 players, one being a Sony which I use for watching movies. The other is a Pioneer of some kind, modified for use in an arcade game IU have called Star Rider. Love it all :)

What sucks is I have about 300 import anime LD, and my Pioneer CLD-605 has been on the fritz for a while. It's not worth me selling all those disc (since I wouldn't get much for them anyway). Damn you DVD. loco

Viva la LD!! wink

I love LaserDisc, I just picked up a new player, the pioneer Elite CLD-99. This was the last player made for the USA.
Hey The Webmiester don't bother with the CLD-V500 get the CLD-D704, that was the best non elite player,it has a great picture and a very good noise reduction system.

Yay! Big laserdisc fan here!!

Got me a CLD-D925 which I've had from new :D

If anyone can give me a link to where I can buy one of the Pioneer Elite Reference players (the last Japanese built players), I'd be most grateful :)

You mean the Pioneer X9? Good luck finding one. I remember when the last batch run was being made and some guy on the newsgroup who was living in Japan was taking orders for it, for $3500 each. And he sold out fairly quickly at that price.

As I always say:

LD are to HomeVideo just waht NeoGeo is to home gaming

period.
