I had alot of best buy Gift cert. for x-mas and finally got to run up there today and loaded up on GBA stuff. Well my gawd is Golden sun amazing or what. The language is on the kiddie side (you felled the beast...) but this is true fun. The grafix are great and the sound track is amazing!!!! I cant wait to see the capabilities of this machine, someone needs to buy and port old neo games to this (Shawn <IMG SRC="smilies/smirk.gif" border="0"> ) it's got enough buttons. Gradius Galaxies is such grert fun and it looks awesome. After my slight disapintment with the brightness (I need a solar flare to play castlevainia) It's all up hill. Advance wars eliminates that old dot connecting game

you know what i mean. Up to 4 players w/just one system! I can't wait for Super mario worlds port! I might just import it! I use this little ting like 10X more than my PS2 [but that is a different story isent it] Does any one know what old SNES games are getting ported (or sequeled) to this great machine!

Phalanx is coming, since you seem to like shooters. Breath of Fire games too.

Um, I really doubt that GBA could really run many Neo games.... maybe Blue's Journey or something but otherwise the games would probably have to be down graded in terms of animation a lot. Sound too.

I theory, GBA could run every neo geo game perfectly, sans the resolution difference. However, it would be very costly to produce 500Mbit GBA carts, and I doubt anyone would buy GBA games that were double (triple) the price, except neo geo enthusiasts. So in reality, I doubt we will ever see perfect ports of our beloved games...

If one were to port a Neo•Geo game to the GBA platform it would be a fraction of it's current size.

The vast majority of the space taken up in an MVS or AES cart are for sprites. Those sprites are drawn out for a resolution of around 320x256. A GBA outputs at 240x160. It'd be safe to assume that they wouldn't use a 1:1 pixel ratio, if they did the games would probably be gorgeous, but we'll say that they're using them at a standard half res. So the sprites would be designed for 120x80, which we'll say is almost a third of the normal size. But even if we say that they are 1:1 sprites, because I honestly don't know whether or not they would be, than the sprites would still be at least 25% smaller than the original.

Given that the GBA can handle ROMS 32MB in size (256mB) and more likely than not SOME sort of smaller ratio sprite would be used, again I doubt a 1:1 size, than it is most definately possible to recreate most if not all Neo•Geo games on that piece of hardware.

The ROM cart size would be a concern though, the standard DEV flash card that Nintendo sells is only 64mB. What the current Meg-Champ on the system is running, as well as the aditional cost per/unit I can't say.

But if they can make KoF EX as well as those Street Fighter games, than I think precious few Neo•Geo games are out of scope.

The KOF coming out soon looks pretty damned good! The control might be a bit awkward, but if I could get used to Street Fighter II on GBA, I'm sure KOF will be a snap.

I'd also like to see them do a Metal Slug game similar to the ones on NGPC.
