I just got the USB SideWinder and I think it's a pretty good pad. It's the standard pad for Windows, so setup was next to nothing. It has a lot of buttons, but my major gripes are that the D-Pad sucks and the buttons are hard to push rapidly. What do you guys think?

that depends on what style it is ?

They made about 3 or 4 different style sidewinders.

The origional is by far the most superior of the bunch.

Its also without a doubt the best game pad made for a pc.

That one in my opinion is the best of the "Sidewinders" I have a shit "Sidewinder Gamepad pro" and the d pad is soo bad, its a circle and just feels wrong, hard to pull moves off with too.

I have the original one that uses the MIDI/Game port. Ive been using it for more than 2 years, and I got it used, I might add (durable little bugger). It rocks, and is JUST the right weight. To me, the newer ones feel too light and plasticky. It's probably just me.

is the buttons were a little more "springy", the d-pad was redone, and it had some analog sticks, it'd be perfect.

I've got a sidewinder USB as well as two of the older serial version pads, and they are by far my favorite computer controller.

I have the MS Sidewinder Pro pad. I think Freestyle or something. Biggest POS controller I ever used. The D-Pad did not even work right. The angle it is set on caused it to respond as if I was hitting the right button instead of the down button. Never again would I touch it.

It's an OK controller, but the D pad is way too stiff. Now that I think about it, I've never used a PC game pad that I actually liked.

I have the old Joystick port version. I've had for like 3-4 years already, it's still kicking and I haven't gone to another controller. IMO, The best controller for the PC.

Couldn't agree with this more. I have the ORIGINAL sidewinder pad as well. It's for the joystick port, probably had it close to 5 years now. The thing is awesome. No need for an upgrade in the future either... I thought I was the only one who still used one!

i have an original sidewinder that goes in the midi, port, and it rocks. d-pad is very nice and the buttons are well spaced. feels like a genesis pad on steroids. great stuff.

i use the original sidewinder as well (game port, pre virtua fighter pack in)

and its lasted all these years. the new ones suck though, or atleast thats what i've heard.

the thrustmaster firestorm digital 2 is a really nice usb pad, but kinda light.

you can always get those shitty psx pad rip offs ;)

OR if you really wanna get the best, get the saturn/dc/psx to usb adaptor for your pc. available at lik-sang.com and i think levelsix.com

I've got one of the SideWinder Freestyle Sensor pads, and the D-Pad is soooo bad I can't ever get it to go in the direction I want :( I really like the pad, but it is almost unusable (oh well, got it free at a gameshow a long time ago, time to stop being cheap and buy one). Glad to hear the other pads are better because I was convinced all SideWinders were junk
