I got this in the mail monday, and I must say I wanted to like it. I really did. I'd heard alot of positive things about it.
Boy were they wrong.
The world presented is absolutley beautiful. If given the chance, I would probably live there. However, I'd pack up quick if I had to live witht the physics presented. I don't know who was in charge of the physics, but they need to find new work elsewhere. I can't count how many times I "ran" (like water flowing over an edge) off a cliff, or ledge. Breaking open crates is done ala crash bandicoot, by jumping and butt smashing them open, or punching them. Unfortunately, punching sends you flying about 10 feet (to scale), and many of the chests are, you guessed it, on cliffs. Butt stomping might work, but on the boxes on rails, punching sends you flying off, whereas buttstomping causes bad "clipping" where you smash through it, get caught in an object, the screen shakes up and down a few times, and them you fall off said object. Way too much of the difficulty of the game comes from having to re-climb the same cliffs, dinasaur spines, and bridges because of bad clipping.
I don't have any clue what was going on, but my demo acted odd. If I kept playing for 10 minutes, somewhere around the 15th minute, the demo would go black and back to the title screen. Likewise, if I set the controller down, I could sit and watch the progression of day to night to day for up to an hour, and as soon as I pressed a button, it would reset again. I wonder if it has a timer based on controller input?
My PS2 is new, and my copy skipped heavily in the cutscenes. No other game I own does that.
A week ago, I wanted to buy this game. Now I'm glad Sony sent me a demo. I'd hate to have bought this. Thanks for saving me 50.00 SCEA!
