Does anyone know what the daughterboard is on some KOF2000 MVS carts? Was it used for debugging?

And is this unique to KOF2000?

It was used for updating the 68k program code in case any bugs were found during cartridge production. Metal Slug 3, Garou MOTW and KOF 99 can also have that daughterboard. The edge connector is for a NGPC flasher tool used by SNK.

Maybe this is a silly question (I'm not a hardware person), but wouldn't it be cheaper just to make the chip socketed instead? That way you could just insert an EPROM, re-write it when needed, then just put the repaired EPROM back?

There's not enough vertical clearance in production neo geo carts for sockets to fit.

I think the daughter board is for flashing purposes.

What's the daughter board used for?

It's easier to post and wait for a reply than use the search function. Seriously.
