There's a similar thread (link below) and I didn't bump since it's not Neo related but want to know if it was resolved???

I have the same issue. I connected to Viletim's adapter connected to an MVS-U4 candy cab and the contrast was very dim, unplayable. I have no issues using my PC Engine setup with Viletim's adapter/SCART/MVS-U4 combo. I took the CDX and plugged into a Sony PVM-1342Q using the composite cables and the image contrast was perfect.

The CDX RGB SCART cable I got off of ebay from Retro_Console_Accessories with the video sync. I've since ordered another similar cable from Retro Gaming Cables. I doubt it's the cable though??? If the Caps were going bad and needing replacement would it explain perfect contract using composite cables vs. the SCART cable set-up????

I'm just a little confused. I am using the authentic original CDX power supply incase anyone wonders.

I don't quite understand your post. Did you test the CDX with both the Retro_Console_Accessories and the Retro Gaming Cables cables? Is your Retro_Console_Accessories Scart cable the boosted sync version?

It could be that your candy cab is more sensitive. You may need to recap your CDX or simply use a different cable with boosted RGB + S lines.

I only tested with the Retro_Console_Accessories RGB SCART cable as I don't have the cable from Retro Gaming to test yet. Both these cables are supposedly the sync versions. I also have not tried on a different cab, as you pointed the cab monitor sensitivity issue. I've ordered the CDX cap kit replacement, but before I do this I want to make sure it's not a cable/cab monitor issue.

It's not the cab monitor. I just tested on a SuperNeo29 cab. Same issue :crying::crying::crying:

Is this the cable you bought?

this is the one I use with my CDX and it works fine. I have not tried the normal Genesis cable that she sells.

Yup! That's the cable I bought! Doesn't work with my set-up. Again, I'm not doing anything special:

- Viletim board to MVS Jamma Adapter to cab
- SCART cable plugged into Viletim board

Works perfect with my modded RGB PC Engine. CDX I get dim contrast????

I have the same issue. I have 3 CDX systems. I have one system that works fine on any TV with any cable and 2 others that suffer from the distorted rgb issue. It could be because the two other consoles are different hardware revisions or suffer from bad caps. I never really bothered messing with it since it's a problem that corrects itself after a few minutes. If I take the two cdx's over my parents house and run it on the pvm over there they both work fine with the same cable. The only thing that is different is the bnc to scart adapter which comes from the tv and of course the TV itself.

Does the dim contrast go away after awhile? Mine does.

It does not go away. Then again, I didn't leave on for 5+min

I would try recapping it as a first step. The Genesis is full of caps, and after recapping mine the colors were much brighter and the sound improved. It can't hurt at least, and it might just fix your issue.

I started the recap! It's somewhat of a pain in the a$$. The CD Player PCB has quite a few caps, and C714 and C737 appear very difficult to remove (wires going over them soldered elsewhere). As I result I may leave these 2 caps alone because of. We'll see.

I'll keep you posted when I finish later this week....

Whew...what a pain in the a$$ this recap was. I hope to never do again!!! I ended up replacing all the caps!!! After re-assembly I tested and same damn 'dim' light/background issue!

Luckily the cable I ordered from RetroGaming arrived and when I swapped the RetroGaming RGB SCART cable from the one I got off eBay it worked perfect!!! :buttrock::buttrock::buttrock:

So it was a damn cable issue likely. Least I recapped this beeyatch so I don't have to go back in unless the laser fails!

Hi dudes,

Does anyone know where to buy a right CDX lens?, I've tested several SF-C93 10 pins and none of them has worked.

Thank you very much in advance

Did you remove the anti-static solder point from the laser before installation??? I've read the correct laser is the SF-C93AQ, 10 PIN. But I can't seem to find anyone selling this version either.

Hi dude,

Yes, I did. You're right the right model is SF-C93QA 10 pins. Recently I ordered one lens to a Chinese seller and I'm waiting to receive it. I know that an American seller sold them but at this moment it is out stock and I've tested with lenses from the links below, for the Portuguese link I didn't buy it but I asked to the seller and he told me that the lens is not right for the CDX. The German link shows a right lens in the advertisement picture but when you receive it this is not the same and doesn't work, and in the last link the seller says that it is the correct lens for the CDX but it is not true.

I know. So we're SOL in terms of a direct supplier to the laser replacement :(

Hi dude,

Bad news, a couple of days I received the Chinese lens and it doesn't work on the CDX, it is the same lens sold at the last link above (the American link). I'm still looking for.

Un saludo

Hi mate,

Are neither one of these correct?
www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SEGA-CDX-OPTICAL-LASER-LENS-/280711051471
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OPTICAL-LASER-LENS-for-SEGA-CDX-MK-4121-/281066977343

Not sure why there are 2 different listings from the same seller though and it is the same seller linked above but these are different listings. They have sold quite a few though. I would think if there were wrong, they would have taken the listing down by now.

Your links are the same than my third link above, in several forum warn about this seller and their not working lenses. My customer bought him 2 "cdx" lenses and none works.

Un saludo

Ok. I found one of the threads (on digitpress) where someone from a couple years ago was saying they were bad. Someone also said that this is the correct pn SFC93AQ. I found a few links for that one but not sure if they are good.

The last one (from the UK) seems like it might be the most legit.

Hi mate,

Thank you very much for the links. I've put in contact with the English shop asking about the lens.

In the Canadian shop conditons say that the pictures can not be actual.

Hi,

Bad news, the English link told me that not have stock and the supplier didn't provide them a date for the new stock.

Un saludo
