okay, before I start my post please don't accuse me of being a drug addict, half baked, oxygen deprived, or worse - just hear me out

I *LOVE* the Neo Geo cartridge system and think it's great. But something tells me I wont get the Neo-CD system out of my system until I try one. Since I don't know of anyone locally who has one I will need to buy one.

My question is, what kind of dealers/people should I buy from? I've heard so many problems with the CDZ system that I have *NO* interest in obtaining one even at a great price. I'd rather stick with the regular US model (which in some peoples eyes is only marginally slower.) What kind of questions should I ask? Obviously if someone is selling one on ebay they are going to say "Runs great." Any dealers selling these brand new anymore?

Anyway, I still want to get one. The games I plan to play on it are shooters, baseball games, and puzzle games. All the games I have in mind will load right away. Too bad Neo-CD doesn't have Magical Drop 3!

Anyone as psychologically messed up as I? (ie: You *CAN* afford Neo carts but for some reason you view the Neo-CD as being some how more technically advanced.. !?!? )

No, there's nothing strange about wanting a Neo CD system in addition to your cart system. I have cart, CD, and will eventually have a full blown cabinet . . . already started collecting MVS carts. CD games, especially the older ones, work great on it and the sound and picture quality (s-video) is excellent. Newer games are very slow loading, and some (like Last Blade 2) are pretty bad on the Neo CD. I agree 100% with your conclusion about the CDZ, I bought one and it turned out to be crap, i/o errors and finally just failed to load anything. Fortunately, the store I got it from gave me a full refund.

Actually, I have a spare brand new Neo CD system, never used. I bought multiple systems from SNK USA when they still had them in stock. I can send you pics of it if you want, and I have a solid eBay rating (ID: chimpmeister). Email me if you're interested: neogeo10@yahoo.com.

Oh, and btw this topic should have been in the Wanted forum . . .

I have one too, I think its cool to have. Chip is right on track with what he said, the older games are great, loading time is very similar to a fast loading sega saturn game with great sound and video. The newer titles however, are just horrid. You can eat dinner, write an essay, chat online and probably organize every CD you own while you play a game of KOF99 or Last Blade(1or2). I think its still a neat system to have, and I would advise getting the one from Chip, brand new, you cant go wrong.

I have also done business with Chimp and he is as good as gold. Anyway, the CD system is something I highly recommend, you can get many great games with decent loading times for a fraction of the price of a cart, and they also make great collectors items. I am very pleased with my US system and I have no regrets about buying both it and a Japanese cart system; as you have also seen, many people have and do go way beyond just that and get full setups also. The cd system is a solid buy and and a worthwhile investment IMO.

a Neo cd system is a good way to get cheap games if you cant get an MVS, Or if you want the CD only titles like Brink. and SS RPG
