I've become seriously interested in picking up this great piece of hardware and some of it's games (KOF series, MOTW, metal slug ect) Heres the problem though. Until the summer i'm working off a 7 dollar allowance so money is tight. I also am new to go around collecting Neo-Geo games. So i have a few questions i'd like answered

1. Whats the cheapest i could get a Neo? (home version)? New? used? Also what should I look for upon getting one to make sure it's in good condition. (I've seen very few pics of Neo-Geo's).
2. What is the average price for a game? I'm not talking about Uber rare games. But games in the middle of the price range.
3. Is this something I could go around picking up stuff for just by going to garage sales? I know for old Nintendo stuff you can do that and even some Atari product. But Are Neo-Geo's just sitting there in American Attics waiting to be taken?
4. what are the chances of getting a Neo Geo? Are the hard to come by or is it easy if I know places (well here of course :D )
5. What games are strongly suggested to buy?
6. Would it just be better to get an import Dreamcast and get the fighting games I want for the Neo and just never enjoy the other games?
7. Is there any way to get a Neo Geo cheap? I keep hearing the price range for these things being above the $500 mark and games $150-$350.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

Well, if you don't have tons to spend, get a MVS. I'm getting a cabinet, but you can use this thing known as a supergun to play arcade boards (including the neo) through your TV. Though it is more expensive starting out, you will save TONS on games in the long run. Here's the way I see it: If you want your bookshelf to look nice and spend a lot on games, the Home version is for you. If you want to spend less on carts but not have your bookshelf look as spiffy, go for MVS. BUT! What if you don't want to spend tons on games but still have your bookshelf look nice? Forum member Big Bear sells these hardcases for MVS games known as shock boxes- just print out an insert, cut it out of the paper, slide it in- viola! Or, say you wanna get most games on homecart, but wanna get the expensive ones on MVS (such as Pulstar, Kizuna Encounter, Metal Slug)- get a Phantom convertor which allows you to play MVS games on your home system! OR! you want to have a nice looking bookshelf, have the expensive games, and not fiddle with this convertor- get converted carts (when someone takes the chips from a MVS games and puts it in a home cart). There's a solution for everyone, but personally, to me the TRUE neo experience is on a cabinet.

if you are low on cash then I would suggest getting, or even better, building your own supergun. It doesn't seem too hard to build one, all you really need is a neo geo mvs board, a jamma harness, something to convert the rgb picture into ntsc (rgb encoder fromwww.jrok.comis supposed to be good, that is what I am planning on using for my supergun), something for sound and some controls ( some mvs boards come w/ built in joyports so that you can plug snk control pads/sticks for the neo home systems into them).
for more information on this I suggest going to
www.hardmvs.com and

If you want the cheaper versions of the games, go MVS or get a Phantom Converter. As for actually finding games to buy you best bet is going to be either ebay or here at NG.com through one of our many sellers or through the Neo Store.

Check out Arcade Infinity's web site. They have all kinds of MVS Cabs. You put your MVS cart into the MVS board (just like you'd load a cart into you NGH). Turn on the power and you're ready to roll.

Damn! They don't have any MVS 25 in stock! It was the only cheap priced one, and they don't have it. Does anybody know where i can get the MVS 25, MVS 29, or the Neo 19?

You should just email Jeff there at Arcade-Infinity.com. Their website is not always the most accurate.

A week, day, hour?

However much you think it's costs to be a Neo addict, it's costs 5-times that. :)

Seriously though, the home cart route is a money vampire. Go with the cheaper MVS route, or even a Neo-Geo CD.

Hey,
i was just like u...i loved Snk but when u found about the system and games were so expensive it hurts my heart  . Anyway this is how to go....take my advice i once was a member like u.

#1 If You want a used Neo to start off ur collection do not buy for over $300...i got my so called used Neo-geo for 190 with 2 controllers Without box and not modded....but minty condition...(seller Neo Bomberman)

#2 Common Games are usally around 100-200,new realeases are around 220-325...but then again we have this beautiful forum where u can make deals with awsome sellers.

#3 No its not like Nintendo where u go around garage sales and accedently find someone selling a kof2000 for $5 ....

#4 Enjoy your new hobby.

By the way, you may as well kiss all your money good-bye, 'cause the NEO officially OWNS YOU NOW.
