TSS, of course will likely cost you dearly and be a pain to track down. It seems every game with Cotton in it is tough to get a hold of...

Puzzle Bobble will be prime boot candidate. Nightmare in the Dark and Pochi & Nyaa should be given extra attention as well.

Ganryu wont be cheap either as it became a prime candidate for SAC'ing for AES conversions.

A game that I've added to my daily routine of searching on ebay and other auctions sites but never showed up is Irritating Maze.

Do you think this game, along with the unofficial V-Liner and Jockey Grand Prix became really rare lately?

I've seen JGP pop up several times. It may be less common, but also isn't terribly popular.

Yeah, I almost got it two times here on the forum but the seller were an asshole.

So the rare ones should be V-Liner and Irritating Maze.

This mahjong (Minnasan No Okagesama Desu! Dai Sugoroku Taikai) and the quiz game (Chibi Maruko-Chan Deluxe Quiz) also seemed to become really hard to pop up.

Most of those aren't worth owning. Only worth it are BBS2, FPD, Viewpoint, TSS, SDB, NitD, MIE, Breakers Revenge and Captain Tomaday.

I just finished my collection a couple days ago and from my own personal experience I can tell you that in this order was the hardest for me to find, the top being the hardest.

1. Fight Fever
2. Ganryu
3. Pochi Nyaa
4. TSS
5. Breakers Revenge

The rest for me weren't that bad.

If you have the money and are ready to buy you can do what I did and make a want to buy thread in the wanted area and the people here have been really helpful to me in finding those hard to get games.

JGP is not uncommon I see them on ebay here and there, I have kits of them if you are interested., V-Liner I only seen for sale once in the last few months and I scooped it up right away so that would be definitely on my hard to find list.

Also Andro Dunos, Ninja Commando, Robo Army & Windjammers are pretty solid, (dare I say?) "must haves".

Baseball Stars 2 is a must own on MVS or AES. I hate baseball but this is one of the best ever made, true arcade style baseball.

I have the chance to buy V-Liner here in Brazil but this is how to cartridge looks like:

It's really in bad shape and the seller claims the game resets when you add credits to it.
I'm not sure if this actually works on MVS boards but it seems so fucked with that huge blue cap that I backed away from the sale. Still he was selling it for $150.

I had a good match a couple weeks ago against EvilMike. A game for the ages.

Your experience may differ greatly. A lot of it depends on when you were searching, and otherwise it's mostly random. For example, I had no trouble getting a dirty Fight Fever with an original shell and badly damaged original label for $35 from yaton back in his heyday. Ganryu was also not a huge deal for those willing to pay the $75 for the handful of loose carts floating around on ebay from time to time. Breakers Revenge I bought randomly online for about $40 in 1999 from a guy on ebay who scammed a bunch of people and got his account removed, but for some reason I got lucky and my cart arrived about a month after I bought it.

For me, Pleasure Goal took forever to get, and I think Neo Drift Out was the last cart I added. Some carts I considered myself just damn lucky to come upon when I did, like Puzzle de Pon! R. Glad I also jumped on MS5, KOF 2003 and and SVC while the full kits were still around and not overpriced.

Irritating Maze is especially tricky because it was never originally sold by itself. It always came at least as a kit, if not in a full cabinet. So if you can find a cart in the wild orphaned from its hardware, consider yourself fortunate while also mourning the loss of the original machine. My personal Irritating Maze cart is in ass condition, and has to be inserted about ten times before it works flawlessly. Someone desoldered all the roms.

I've got windjammers, puzzle de pon r!, robo army and bust-a-move again, if you're looking for them.
I think I may have an english drift out kit, too. Will have to have a look.

I have a full MVS set (including v-liner) and I would say that Pleasure Goal was the worst by far to get, since it wasn't released in Japan on MVS, and in somewhat limited quantities in the rest of the world.
None of these games other than V-liner is really that hard to get as long as you're prepared to pay for them, but I would list them like this

Hard/expensive:
V-liner (only really seen this from people getting it from Casinos in Brazil)
Bang Bead (expensive, semi-rare)
Fight Fever (semi-rare)
The Irritating Maze (rare)
Nightmare in The Dark (semi-rare)
Super Dodge Ball (rare)
Money Idol Exchanger (semi-rare, very sought after)
Ganryu (rare)

Semi-hard/expensive:
Twinkle Star Sprites (very sought after)
Pochi & Nyaa (Pochitto Nyā) (semi-rare)
Puzzle de Pon! R (rare, not very sought after)

Not that hard to get:
Everything else

Pleasure Goal is really easy to track down here. I saw at least 10 so far.

I'm very interested but I'm low on cash this month. Next month I'll contact you to get the cartridges :)

You know I don't want to open another thread just to ask that but why is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2003 so expensive in Japan? As far as I know it's just a hack of KOF2003.

Then you should stock up and sell them on ebay :)
Pleasure Goal is probably the rarest MVS game, excluding V-liner. I don't see any current, or completed ebay listings for it right now.

Should have bought Bubble Pop back when Vektorlogic was trying to dump the last copies on ebay. I always thought they'd come down in price. They didn't.
