Im just starting out to collect Neo-Geo, ive allways been a fan and playd any MVS i could find and play. I decided to get a Neo-Geo Pocket Color and want to know 2 things.

Are Japanies and English games compadiable with the same Neo-Geo Pocket?

What games are a must to get and the most enjoyable to play?

There is no territory lock-out on the NeoGeo Pocket carts. However, unlike the MVS/AES carts. The Japanese Games will play in Japanese on an "English" system and vice-versa.

Now... What type of games do you like?

You ought to get:
Card Fighters Clash
SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millenium
Metal Slug (1st or 2nd Mission)
Puzzle Link 1 (or) 2.

When you got those, there are loads more. :)

BioMotor Unitron is a pretty decent game. Umm... It's been a while since I've played (got it when it was first released and well been busy with so many other games. :p )

If I recall, the goal of BMU is to build the ultimate fighting robot. You have access to something like 6 maps (which are randomly generated), get cash, upgrade your robot, send it off to an arena. I think the goal is to win a certain number of arena matches? Umm... Again, I"m not 100% sure here.

The NGPC doesn't really have traditional RPGs in its arsenal.

It's still a good game though.

Puzzle Link 1 & 2 is IMHO the puzzler that has the most for its money on the NeoPocket.

The premise of the game is rather simple. There are a bunch of different coloured blocks on the screen. You control a "ship?" that moves left and right on the bottom of the screen. You get rid of blocks by building a pipe between two (groups) of blocks of the same colour (each group must not be touching the other). Once you blow up blocks, any blocks that were underneath them "fall upwards". Should they connect with blocks of similar colour which weren't previously touching, then they blow up in a chain reaction, etc.

There are 2 player modes of play.

There are two other Main modes of play in both versions.

Puzzle Mode: there are 50'ish puzzles (if I remember). These are static screens. You are given a certain number of connects. If you can clear the whole screen using less pipes then indicated then you get a bonus. If you clear the screen using more then you get less points. The game is over once you are stuck with one of a kind blocks. (Shouldn't happen unless you did the puzzle wrong.) And you can continue where you left off.

Normal Mode: lines of blocks show up at a certain pace. You need to prevent them from reaching the bottom of the screen. The level finishes when you connect to "End" blocks together. (They'll show up after a while). If you finish the level within a certain time-limit you get a "card".

There's an endless version of the Normal mode where there is no ending and no card awarded.

What the cards do:
If you get all of the cards in Puzzle Link 1 you get a slideshow.

If you get all of the cards in Puzzle Link 2, you don't get anything special... I think. ;)

In Puzzle Link 2 there is a simple card game you can play using the cards you won. I think this game can be played with 2 players.

Dynamite Slugger , BaseBall Stars and Neo Turf Masters are great stuff if you want any sports type titles.

Also just to be a bit different the Pac-Man game is almost arcade perfect.

If you like to read alot then pick up either of the Dive Alert games , I thought they were rather lame myself , another damn Japanese soap opera.

And Denah De Go is sort of cool , its a kind of transit train simulator , another weird Japanese game.

DARK ARMS!

that, along with Picture Puzzle, SNK vs. Capcom, and maybe Faselei if you can get it make the perfect collection.

If you can find a friend to collect too, make him/her buy Dark Arms. The two player mode is out of this world. Like 2D overhead Goldeneye.

I have yet to play a crappy NGPC game. Except for that train wreck known as Dive Alert As long as you steer clear of that you should be aight.

Just be aware that some games, especially the later ones, are exclusively in Japanese, even if you set your system to English. (Other games will play in the language your system is set to, especially the earlier ones.)

Some games, like KOF R-2, will play in English if your system is set to English, and Japanese if your system is set to Japanese, no matter which version your cart is.

However, I believe that some games, like the Japanese version of Card Fighters' Clash, will only play in Japanese no matter what.

In other words, if you're looking to get a game, especially one that's heavily text-dependent, make sure you get the US or UK version.
