I have a Korean version of Shock Troopers and it appears to have one windowed eprom. I took a look at the mvs scans website but it doesn't match. Do I have a boot or is this a repair? I also took a picture of the bottom of the eprom where the soldering job looks pretty factory fresh. All other chips match the website.

Thoughts?

Most likely a repair. All the other chips are legit.

I have a Metal Slug 5 boot with all windowed Eproms, the sound is all of a sudden shitty, any ideas?

Come on look at all the mask roms, its legit. The eprom is a last minute software revision, a stop gap in a production run until mask roms are manufactured or since its Korean it can be a censorship thing.

Buy a legit cart.

Yup, usually it's a censorship thing. The Korean versions of games sometimes have missing sound samples or some are replaced, sometimes title screen text is different blah blah blah.

Cover the windowed chip with tape (I use black electrical tape) to stop light from damaging the EPROM over time.
