I am trying to get this AES to work and just noticed I am missing something on my board. The board gets power but no sound or video.

Here's a pic of my board:

Another angle (my board still):

Now here's a pic of another early AES board, notice the silver chip with copper soldered to the top. What is that?

The part that was there was the master clock crystal, it was changed to a different value with a new circuit which is what is on that extra board in your AES.

So I don't need it? I am totally stumped, I have no idea why the board is not working.

When I first got it, there was evidence of liquid spilled on the board, which I cleaned up really well. Also the 100P capacitor was missing and I soldered a new one on (bought a bag of 100 just in case someone needs one).

What can cause the video to not display? The guy I bought it from claimed the console worked but the video was distorted. When I powered it on, I got nothing.

jimerc21 - Thanks for posting the pics.

Xian Xi - Thanks buddy. Is there a info diagram that shows what everything is on this gen board? Any good troubleshooting guides?

BTW here is a pic of the full board in case it helps:

Don't add those caps, they aren't supposed to be there. Just think of the 1st gen as the "test" version.

What power supply are you using and what TV are you trying it on?

Gotcha, well the 100p actually looked like it broke off. Part of it was actually still on the board.

I tried it on two different LCD TV's and also through my Onkyo receiver. no picture nor sound. Using OEM power supply, actually own several different ones though but I'm using the 5v 3a.

I did order a Sony PVM-1953MD which is for my Jamma boards but that wont be here until next week. Are there things on the board I should test? I've got a multimeter in case you have recommendations.

Thanks buddy.

You need to try it only a CRT TV. The Neo displays at 240p which some LCDs just won't accept. The more expensive units will usually upscale it to 480i and display it.

Wouldn't the sound work? I'll go pickup a CRT and give it a shot. What are the typical things that go out on a AES (early model under 10k serial)? Are there cap replacement kits?

thanks
