I've been tossing around the idea of get a Pocket Color.

I love my GBA, but I've only played the Pocket Color for about 10 minutes a few months back and wasn't impressed. The graphics weren't that great and the game was so-so on first impression (it was one of the slugs).

I don't know if I really want to drop cash on another system and games if it's not spectacular. What do you guys think? Am I all set with my GBA or do I need a Pocket Color?

I guess that depends on if you see any must have games on the NGPC ?
Personally I cant stand the poor screen technology of the GBA or I would probably get one.
The viewing angle on that thing is a total joke.

The NGPC is also very dark though , Im putting an afterburner kit in mine so its more tollerable.

I guess I got spoilde with the LYNX ?

I say go for the pocket ! they are fairly cheap these days and there are some decent games for it.
Hey we only live once ! at least I hope so anyway . LOL

well it all depends on what genre you are into. personally ive had both and i think the neo geo pocket is infinetely better. the neo pocket has the best handheld fighters ever, the best control, the best sports (turfmasters rules), the best strategy (CFC).

If you believe that 'graphics make not a game' then you should buy a neo pocket. personally though i think the graphics are great on the system, especially Metal Slug 2 and the art on CFC.

Spectacular it is.

ha, that's why the lynx powers down after 2 hours!!!!

the neo pocket is *not* dark , it has the most reflective display of any of the non-backlit hand helds.

anything compared to the GBA's screen is good.
personally i think that machine is pathetic. reasons are in the NGP vs GBA in general discussion.

Nothing I've played on the GBA has persuaded me to part with my cash. But them, I admit to being completely bias when it comes to handhelds...

I dont care about battery life, beacuse I generally dont play my hand helds anywhere there isnt a wall socket.

But we do have to pay some price for back lighting ! I really didnt mind if it ate batteries every hour , it was definatly worth it !

Most reflective screen or not unless you are outside or in an ultra bright room { I cant stand overhead lighting myself} Its pretty damn dark.
But hey Im a LYNX guy what do you expect from me ? all the handhelds look like a black hole.

Hey candycab i wasn't flaming you or anything i was just stating that in the modern handhelds the neo does have the best screen

personally i think the best handheld ever is the sega nomad, you get 100's of great games for pennies, they come in greatboxes, you get backlit scree, the best control EVER (8 buttons and a 8-way d-pad) , the ability to hook up to your tv AND plug an extra pad in the bottom for 2 -player games....

the only downside is battery life but like you said....if your near a plug socket then it dosen't matter :D !!!

NGPC is much easier to see and hold than the GBA.

Neo games generally have a lot more depth, but sound and visuals are much more basic.

GBA is a biiiig disappointment; NGPC got the goods where it counts...

NGPC is real cheap and R2 is usually a snip, you just can't not really.

I fully agree about the Nomad , my friend just picked one up off of ebay today for 28.00 with the ac plug and case.

Graphics?

Who needs graphics as good as the GBA when you get perfect mini versions of your favorite NG games!

MoTM (best handheld fighter ever)
Samurai Shodown II
KoF R-2
Last Blade
Fatal Fury
Metal Slug 1&2
Cardfighters Clash (incredibly addicting)
+ Many more

NGPC may not have the graphical power of the GBA, but pick up KoF EX on the GBA then KoF R-2 on the NGPC then see what you think.

BTW if you get a NGPC buy MoTM as your first game, I still play mine on a regular basis since I first got it.

I have all USA Release NGPC games to begin with, and a GBA. If you want games that you can play four hours, get a NGPC. If you want the latest and greatest get the GBA. If you want RPGS, get the GBA. Fighters, Get the NGPC. It all depends on the type of games you want.

Thanks. That's a good point. I'm leaning towards getting a NGPC :) .

The joystick on the NGPC is joy to use (no pun intended), and games like MOTM and CFC speak for themselves.. Don't miss out! :)

Some of the best NGPC games ever made are Ogre Battle, Sonic Pocket Adventure (Heh "Pocket Adventure")
and Dive Alert.

Ogre Battle was over waay too quick! But the character animation is awsome! And the music is pretty good

Sonic really shows what the NGPC can do! It left me wanting more!

Dive Alert is the most accurate Sub Sim I have ever played! (Also the only one) Its good if you have alot of patience and like games similar to Armored Core.

Just holding your NGPC in your hands, you can feel the quality...And the *click* of the D-pad...

Kuran: Damn you you're almost 2 months older than I am! Punk!

I suggest you get a NGPC, the games can be had pretty cheap. And most, if not all, of them are good. I think out of all the NGPC games I own the only one I didn't really like at all is Bio Motor Unitron, I'm sure others would disagree but it's just not my type of game..

On the subject of the screen of the NGPC.. It's not dark at all. Candycab, if you're going to put an afterburner in the NGPC I want to see pics. :)

Hey cole , I have not ordered an afterburner yet but as soon as I do and get it in I will deffinatly share some picks with you guys .

I will work on ordering one in the next few days.

I did see one sell a few weeks back on ebay and it looked really good.

I emailed the guy and he told me it was a bit tougher to do than a GBA and not quite as bright.

One of the reasons its harder to do, is because one of the screws holding the NGPC together [the one below the battery cover] has a unique shape [Its shaped like a "Y"]
Were it not for that damn screw, I would have taken my NGPC appart years ago...

Actually I was told that the hard part of putting an afterburner in the Pocket was knowing where the solder points were.

...And THAT is another reason.
So, does that mean you have a screwdriver with a Y-shape?
Because if you do, I would be very interested in knowing where you got it.

No I dont have a screwdriver for it , so I just drilled the head off of the screw.

If you do this ,just take your time.

The screw in mine was fairly soft so it was pretty easy.

when I took mine apart there was a bit left sticking out of the board.

needle nose pliers and out it comes.

you cloud also just use a drill to hog out the plastic around the screw head, my friend did that on his ,
but you need to be very carefull you dont drill through the pcb,
although there is no circitry around that screw so if you did go through it may not hurt it.
