yep neo cup '98 does support the link cable for head to head games, personally i like the game it's a little difficult but fun enough to play the story mode has nice touches and it's one of the 'lesser' neo titles so you should be able to pick it up cheap.
Yeah, it's cool. No ISS, but still plays a nice game of football. The pace is slow and you have to learn to keep your thumb off the control stick when you're not close to the ball. Also, it doesn't let you score too easy, which is good. Nice power-up feature too.

yeah, the game does seem ridiculous until you figure that out! Mine came without any instructions, so I was in the same boat as you for a while. Also, the dash move helped a lot. Once I figured that out, I took England to lift the cup! After lots of cheating...

haha yes, the save/load, where would we be without that trick? Probably stuck with a very poor win/loss record 
The dash - press back/forward (for instance, press down then up if you are going up the screen) quickly and your character will dash forward a short distance. Useful for getting past defenders

well iam asking becuz i took my ngpc with me to work and my friend there (who has never heard of a neo geo before) just fell in love with neoturfmasters, he was playing it all day long. 
now he wants me to get one for him too, i already bought a 2nd ntm-cartridge, now i just need to pick up a ngpc and a link-cable for him and soon we will explore the mighty neo-turf-2-player-matches <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool]" />
i could also pick up 2 tennis and 2 neocup carts but i guess nothing will top neo-turf <img src="graemlins/glee.gif" border="0" alt="[Glee]" />

you should consider yourself lucky! There are many games I'd love to play in 2P but have never had the chance...Faselei! is probably top of the list
actually, now I think about it, I've played Card Fighters in 2P, also. I got thrashed! Maybe that's why I didn't remember it
but even though I got beatenm I don't think it worked too great as a 2P game for some reason...

i didnt even get addicted to the one player mode. not my kind of game yet.

yeah, that's half the problem, finding someone else with the same cart! I've been real tempted to buy a second cart of my fave games, but like you say, they are all getting too pricey now, and why buy a second copy when you can get a new game for the same price? It's times like this when I start thinking a flash cart would be handy...
